Things will be ok for your daughter now.. if she is induced tonight, there is nothing really to worry about anymore in this pregnancy, they will be fine!

OC can only be dangerous to the unborn baby if (it goes undiagnosed and) the woman carries to term (37 weeks plus). Often, OC pregnancies end in pre-term labour anyway, which happened to me in my last pregnancy (was monitored for presumed OC, told to wait for results. A couple of days later I went into (early) labour by myself. Hospital staff then told me in the delivery room that I had OC...

Delivering early can bring some problems for the newborn (like jaundice etc), so there is a potential risk from that.

OC has a pretty high reoccurrence rate, so I assume your daughter would be monitored in subsequent pregnancies, which is a slight concern. But as far as I understand, OC is not that dangerous if you know about it and take some precautions.

I wonder how many responses you'll get... as I always think this is a quite rare condition..

Fingers crossed for your family, and get some rest for tomorrow :-)

Thanks I am going to be at the birth so do not know what to do with myself. It could be hours or it could be a couple of days.

Hi redglow, congratulations you are about to meet your grandchild Smile!

I was diagnosed with OC at 32 weeks pg with DS2.

Moonwalk's advice is spot on, OC is only dangerous if undiagnosed and the mum/baby are not regularly monitored. Your daughter and baby will be fine.

My baby was induced at 36+0 as the medication to reduce the bile acids in my body was not effective and there was deemed to be risk to the baby. He did have to go to NICU as his lungs were full of gunk but that was caused by being 4 weeks prem and nothing to do with the OC.

DS2 is now 5 weeks old and asleep on my chest!

Just a word of warning, my consultant told me that ladies with OC tend to labour very quickly which was true in my case. I had 1 pessary, my waters broke 3 hours after along with the first "pains" and baby arrived 1 hour after that! No need for the 2nd pessary of the drip to start contractions.

Hoping your daughter has just an easy time, it was a fab birth!

Glad to hear your grandson and daughter are doing well - congratulations to everyone! I was diagnosed with OC in my last pregnancy, but they think I had it in all 3 (the latest I got was 36 weeks). I have 3 happy boys, but had some anxious moments. If you/she have any queries do contact Jenny Chambers at the OC support website that RichGhastley mentioned - she had 2 still births with OC, and is really lovely and knowledgable. Now your daughter has had the baby, the only thing is that she is quite likely to have it in future pregnancies - and if she has sisters, they would be more likely to have it. As somebody above said, the main danger is if it isn't diagnosed, so worth bearing in mind. But for now, enjoy your new grandson!

Hi all I am new to this site, but I have just had it confirmed that I have O.C I am only 16 weeks and this is my 5th pregnancy, I have never experienced this with my other children, I will be 39 when this little one is born. Anyone that is really itching and that it gets worse at night especially itching on the hands and feet then ask for the blood test, I have been fortunate because as soon as I mentioned it to my midwife and although she said it would be quite rare for someone in the early stages of pregnancy to have O.C, she did get my blood checked, this was only yesterday and I had a call this evening from her to say that it had shown abnormal, I have to go back in the morning for another blood sample so they can compare the two results. I have been climbing the walls with the itching and have had no relief with the various creams the doctor has prescribed, the midwife did explain to me on the phone that they could now treat my itching with piriton and I would be given medication for O.C, she also told me that I would be induced early 37-38 weeks. I will keep you posted as to how things go. I just wanted to share my experience so far x

Hi Shazbar sorry to heay you have oc I am sure you will be fine as they know about it the danger is when they can't monitor you and you do not know about it. Thanks ilovevenice will show her this when she comes home. I would say that my daughter was itching all over at night not any more on her hands and feet. So even though itching is comman in pregnancy always get it checked out. It's only a blood test.

I had OC and DD is now very healthy six year old. It did require close monitoring, extra blood tests along with strong antihistamines and vitimin K tablets. I was induced at 38 weeks but everything was fine though my labour was very slow (48 hours)

Congratulations on your grandson OP. If he gets jaundiced which he might tell her to lie her baby in the sunlight as that will help but really its nothing to worry about.
