Spotting at 30 weeks

noticed a small amount of brownish spotting on the loo paper after I had been for a wee. Looked like what I might expect to find if my period was on it's way in the next day it so, if you see what I mean.

Never had any spotting or bleeding before.

I will be ringing midwife as soon as she starts work, but any ideas what this could be? I'm now imagining other symptoms...

I am assuming that you don't have a low lying placenta or placenta previa (which would have been seen in a scan already).

Always check with the midwife, but if it's old blood, it is less likely to be a big problem. I had this and was told that it could be burst cervical veins or a graze from recent sex. They usually suggest that you take it easy and have some bed rest.
Midwife may ask you to put a pad on so that she can see it if you need to come in.

Hope that everything is ok and that you get seen soon.

No low lying placenta. No recent sex Wink. There wouldn't have been enough to warrant a pad. It was really just a smear on the loo paper.

Is this your first? If you've had a c-section then there can be some bleeding in late pregnancy- nothing to worry about though AFAIK.

If it seems to have stopped I'd try for a rest and then speak to the midwife when you can. Is there an after hours number you can contact? If it's worrying you then better to get in touch rather than spend hours worrying :)

No this is my second and yes, I had an elcs.

I'm not even sure who I should ring - have numbers for midwife, triage, day assessment, delivery suite..,that's why I was going to wait til nine and ring the midwife!

Exactly this happened to me at 29 weeks. I called the hospital. On the phone the midwife asked if I had had premature babies before and I promptly burst into tears Sad

I had to go in to be internally examined, monitored and be given an injection to mature the baby's lungs, just in case.

I ended up staying in hospital for 3 days I think. They weren't too worried, it was all just in case.

She ended up being born at 40+16 so certainly not remotely early Smile. And she is fine Smile

If you've had a c-section it could be a membrane rupture- nothing much to worry about AFAIK. If the spotting has stopped I would rest and call midwife at nine. If there is more then call delivery and ask.

Eek! That sounds scary, I'm glad everything was OK. 40+16! my babies need to be born at 38-39 weeks due to me being diabetic, and a 38 week pregnancy was quite long enough for me!

Am expecting to spend the morning at the hospital tbh, annoying as I will have 5yo DS with me.

Good luck - I'm sure everything will be fine. Please let us know.

Yes 40+16 was a bit much. Dc2 was born at 40+14 too. 38 weeks sounds just about perfect to me Smile

Rang triage in the end, and was told brown blood is old blood therefore not too much of a concern, especially such a small amount. Have to ring back if any red blood or changes to baby's movements.

hi kicking. I have had a bit of brown watery spotting on pants and twice pink on tissue recently (am 22 weeks) both times mw and hospital have said nothing at all to worry about, all quite normal! So unless it's red blood they don't worry. Hope this helps to reassure you, it didn't really me, still a paranoid android but hey ho!
