falling over when pregnant

I was walking to my car last night to go to work (night shift) and slipped on the ice. I was holding my laptop in one hand, so broke the fall with the other but landed pretty heavily on my backside!
I'm 17 weeks pregnant and am totally paranoid I could have harmed the baby - is it an urban myth that falling can cause miscarriage (please say yes!) It's been such a bumpy (no pun intended!) ride - just got the all clear from a CVS and a clear heart scan after high nuchal, so can't believe I've done this!
TIA

I would go to Hospital to be honest, best be checked out and then you won't be worrying about it Smile

At this point I had once fallen down our home stairs bump-bump-bump every single one to the bottom. I slipped because I rushed to answer the intercom and although my back was hurting a lot I still had to answer because my son was being dropped home from school. Nothing bad happened!

Thanks. Yes I thought about seeing if I should call the midwife and asking if she can listen in to the heart. I think I'm feeling her move which is a good sign.

Just get it checked, it can't to any harm to be sure

If you landed on your bum, and you're that far along, I would think your baby is still incredibly well cushioned and protected by your body. Amniotic fluid acts like an airbag but better IYSWIM. However if you think you're going to fret then call your midwife and see what she can do about getting you checked up.

You're far more likely to have bruised your coccyx than caused any harm to your baby!

I've definitely bruised my coccyx!!!! It's very painful!!! Damn snow and ice!

I fell over onto my stomach when I was pregnant. It was such a big hit that it winded me. Ds1 is 12 now Smile

If it is worrying you, I would go get checked at the hospital TBH.
I tripped and fell right onto my huge bump at about 32 weeks pregnant and thankfully everything was fine. The hospital were so good and said they would rather give you a quick check over than you be worrying unnecessarily.

blue22 · 12/02/2012 08:48

Thanks - yeah I'd like to get it checked out, but I'm on these night shifts. I've been at work since 1am and won't leave till after midday. Then it's the same tonight, so I'm DESPERATE to sleep. I might call my midwife and see if she could do a quick listen at the surgery tomorrow afternoon.
Obviously if I bleed or anything, I'll get straight to the hospital.

Hi, I am 35 weeks and I slipped down the stairs on Friday landing on my bum and bouncing down a couple of stairs. I called the hospital and the mw said that as I landed on my back I am highly unlikely to have caused any harm but to monitor movements for an hour and go in if I am not happy/ got any bleeding etc. 2 days later and the little one is moving fine, I just have a sore back. I am sure you will be fine but you should see if they can check the hb for your own piece of mind x
