X-ray in pregnancy

Would you or wouldn't you have one?

I fractured by spine last year and am now 17 weeks pregnant. My back has really started playing me up so I went to see my GP for some advice.

He wanted to book me in for an xray of my lower spine to see if the fracture had reappeared. I refused as I thought it was risky. I've already had a few mc's so i dont want the added risk. He looked at me like I was mad and said my alternative was cocodamol everyday.

Just wondering what others would do. Am I being a bit precious?

I had one last week for a suspected lung problem. They made me wear a lead apron shielding my bump. The way they presented it to me, the risk from not detecting the problem was far greater than any percieved risk to the baby, and I was happy with that. I found the nuclear scan that followed far more guilt-inducing tbh. I don't think they'd offer an xray as an option if there was a real risk.

I would have one. You would get as much radiation from an aeroplane journey and plenty of women fly during pregnancy.

I had an x-ray at 36 weeks with ds2. It was to measure him in relation to my pelvis as I'd had an emcs with ds1 after failure to progress. I was told the benefits outweighed the risk. They wouldn't be recommending it to you if they didn't think it was the best thing. Good luck!

So really I am being a bit precious! :o

I over worry about everything...I guess I'm going to have to rethink this one.
