Baby clothes sizes?

Hiya a bunch of stuff I ordered from mothercare just arrived - sleepsuits mainly. I ordered the new baby size but they are all pretty big, deff bigger than new born stuff iv had from other shops. Should I be buying tiny baby size clothes from there to fit my newborn?

How much of each size should I be getting ready?
Ie how many newborn and then 0-3 size vests and sleepsuits will I need to get me through? Would be a lot easier if I knew how big/small my bubba was going to be!

Thanks xx

Both my girls were in tiny baby clothes to begin with (they were 4,5lbs and 6,12lbs) My first daughter was 4 weeks early, I didn't even have my hopsital bag packed so when she was born my family went out and bought us lots of tiny baby clothes. Because of that I'd say it may be useful just to have a pack of vests / sleepsuits in a smaller size just incase.

As for how many vests and sleepsuits you'll need I'm not too sure as I know I buy far too much, maybe 10 of each? You'll no doubt get loads of clothes as gifts too.

In my experience it depends if you mind some of the stuff being all baggy and too big when the baby is first here... as they fill it out surprisingly quickly, within a few weeks! Also you don't know how big the baby will be when it's born - when you're talking about newborn/up to 1mth/up to 3mths the difference between sizes is quite small and a lot depends on where they start from!

Most of my stuff was 0-3mths (a few bits of 0-1mth) but my baby was only 7lb when born so it was all baggy on her - so my mum bought a couple of proper newborn size outfits just so she had something that was the correct size for her!
It's heartbreaking when they grow out of their outfits especially if you've spent ages pre-birth choosing them, so don't get too much tiny stuff, that's my advice!
Other things: Gap 0-3mths come up tiny (pretty much newborn size, they don't last long!) whereas Mothercare, Sainsburys and M&S all seem to be big (so when they say "up to 10lb" your baby may well be over 10lb and still fitting into them). I think Next are also quite big.

I am in the same situation here no idea what size to buy plus everything is in such different sizes. I bought a 0-3 month long sleeve vest which looks extremely tiny, I also have a polo shirt vest (bought on our holidays in the Caribbean last week) in newborn which is huge-same size as the 3-6 month baby grow I have from gap. Plus baby due end of June, no idea what sort of clothing I should buy as so depends on the weather. I was thinking some nice polo shirt vests (it's a boy) which he can wear if very hot on their own then some shorts/ trousers to put on as well if a little cooler and then a couple of cardigans to put on top if it's much colder. Have one slightly warmer outfit and was also planning on getting quite a few basic white babygrows to sleep in. Also will I need socks at that time of year? Dh and I hate wearing socks so don't want to put him in them if not necessary!

I do think Mothercare things are generously sized.

In the opposite to SayHelloToMyLittleFriend I had loads of newborn stuff second time round but DS1 was 9lb 5oz and when he stretched all the poppers on his babygro opened like the Incredible Hulk!
For my third I had one babygro in newborn size which I washed and put in the hospital bag, I didn't wash/open anything else that wasn't 1 month or 0-3 months so I could take it back if needs be.

You don't need to buy that much really, definately not as much as the books and magazines say, and if you have loads of friends and family then you will be given lots of clothes as presents in smaller sizes.

I would get a pack of 6 or 7 vests, and maybe 6 babygro's.

Kept my autumn born dd in vests and sleepsuits for the first 3 months. She would manage to poo her way through about 3 lots during a day - don't underestimate the explosiveness or range of newborn poo! Will be doing the same for baby due this summer.
In fact I probably didn't consistently dress her in proper clothes until she was at least 4/5 months
Dd didn't care, and neither did anyone else!
