Dreadful 34 week appointment-measuring small and breech

Gah, just when I get over one thing it's another. My bump has been pretty small throughout, the midwife confirmed it looked much lower than she would have expected, but having had a poke around she thinks it's just all baby and not much fluid. But baby has gone from being 1/5 engaged 3 weeks ago to completely flipping over and being head up and kind of sideways across my body. No wonder my heartburn's stopped. I'm seeing her next week for another measurement, and the week after that I have to see a different midwife to confirm the presentation and to book both a scan and an ECV. She did say that baby still has a lot of room to manouver so it may right itself, but now I'm worrying about the possibility of a breech birth. I really don't want a section, but the thought of a breech birth makes me quite scared tbh. Anyone have similar?

I feel for you :( I'm 39 weeks today but DD is measuring at 32 weeks at the moment, no one seems to really know why though I think it's probably thanks to my atrocious eating habits. There's not really anything you can do on the small front sadly.

If it helps, DD was also breech a few weeks ago, though since then she's turned and now she's spine to spine [sigh]. There's still time for DC to turn, try not to worry. :) If you make it clear to your midwife that you do NOT want a c section then they will only perform one if absolutely necessary.

I got told from 30 weeks that my baby was breech and my MW was almost positive, I went for a scan at 37 weeks and they scaned me and he was head down in fact his head was so low in my pelvis that you couldn't even see his head. So turned out that MW had been feeling his bum the whole time thinking it was his head! So don't worry you do still have a lot of time for baby to turn and till you get it confirmed by scan she could be wrong!

Good luck xx

I hope it'll be fine :) I can feel him wedged the wrong way though, he's lying liek he's literally cradled in my hip bones, the movements I'm getting feel like he's pushing the bones apart. Very painful. I'm trying to stay positive and think, well, if he got himself into that position, he can get himself out of it too. A quick read tells me that the bum in the air position can help turn breech/transverse so I plan on spending the next two days cleaning my wooden floor like a mad woman.
Sannebanana, funnily enough back to back isn't a presentation that would worry me. Both my dc were back to back, only ds turned in labour. The best advice is to stay active and upright. His birth was honestly great, dd's less so but mainly because of interventions due to being induced rather than her being back to back iyswim. My midwife said that the pool is great for posterior labours, ds was born too quickly for me to try it out. But honestly, back to back needn't be a big deal.

Fuckity (love your name!) don't despair. Mine was in what sounds a similar position to yours, sort of oblique, until about 33 weeks. I went on a concerted campaign to turn LO including loads of time sitting bolt upright and leaning forward as much as possible (and where possible sitting on the birth ball); doing the inversion from the spinning babies website every day; and spending as much time on my hands and knees as I could bear. By the time I went for my 34 week check after about one week of all that, LO had gone head down, so something seemed to work.

The way it was explained to me is that you need to do everything you can to make space for the baby to turn. Any position you sit/stand in during the day should be upright and forward, and try and lie on your side at night and when you are resting. The more your tummy can 'hang' the more space LO has to swim round. Leaning/slumping back in chairs or lying on your back makes less space (gravity pushes the baby and the fluid backwards) so LO is less likely to turn. That's the theory apparently, anyway!

Good luck!!

hotpink, do you think your bump looked smaller because of the position the baby was in? I met a friend today who had no idea I was even prgnant, let alone with only 6 weeks to go. It's beginning to get to me a bit, I'm a size 12 and do have a bump but it is bloody small. And I don't feel as pregnant as I should iyswim. I know I should be grateful for small blessings, but apart from a bit more tiredness, and the funny feelings of the baby's lie pushing my hips apart when he stretches, I have no real discomfort. No more heartburn, no breathlessness, I even need to pee less. I know that in 8 weeks when I inevitably go overdue I'll probably look back and wonder what the hell I was worried about, but it makes me feel a bit of a fraud in a strange way. It has lulled me into a false sense of security I think. With both other dc I was seriously huge by this stage, lumbering about and about 4 stone up. I was so ready for them to be born. But I still feel this one is ages away from coming when actually I need to be pulling my head out of the sand.

Yep - my bump did look smaller (and people keep telling me how 'neat' I am and smaller than they/their friends were at the same gestation). I knew it had changed position at 34 weeks because the shape of my tummy was totally different one morning and it really freaked me out! Since it's been head down I've been a lot more uncomfortable TBH, much more pelvic pressure and heartburn. When they are oblique they are not really on your bladder or up in your ribs, it's all sideways!

I'm sure he'll move for you! Also, on the measuring small front, lots of people on here seem to get told that from fundal height, then are perfect for dates on a scan. If you are really slim this time that might affect the measurement too.

Great that you are going back to see MW and have a scan booked - hopefully they'll confirm all is absolutely where it should be.

If it's any consolation I don't really have any concept the baby's coming in about six weeks - head firmly in the sand Grin
