Not sure if I'm mentalling about nothing here. DS (16 months) has been ill with bad cold for past couple of weeks. In the past week or so his skin has had red blotches that have come and gone. I'm not sure if this is because of his cold or because it is cold outside and the change in temperature or if it could be that he has slapped cheek syndrome. If he has it it's very mild. I'm going for my 12 week scan and bloods on tues, should I just mention it to them then when they do the bloods? Or am I just unnecassarily worrying (I am a worrier!). Any toughts?

I wouldn't worry unless your DS has also had a high temperature. My DS was sent home from school once with suspected parvovirus (slapped cheek syndrome) and school wouldn't believe me that he had sunburn, so I looked it up, and sent him in the next day with the NHS page about it.

I had a blood test for parvovirus when I was pregnant as had spent time with nephew, who was a suspected carrier. If I was you I would get your bloods taken on the off chance - given you are there anyway. It will at least put your mind at rest.

Thanks. He doesn't have a high temperature. But did a couple of weeks ago- the doctor then (and I did tell him about the rash) said it was just a virus. But I didn't mention that I was pregnant at the time (I didn't know about slapped cheek at that point- slapped cheek is this weeks worry!! Smile).

I had this worry too in my first trimester of pregnancy. Knew nothing of slapped cheek danger until a friend warned me that dd's bright red bumpy cheeks weren't just wind-chapped or random acne Blush

I was under a consultant - when I called him, he heaved a great sigh and said, 'ohhhh, bother, it's just one more thing that they now get pregnant women worked up about but I suppose we should be better safe than sorry..." I had weekly blood tests for a while. They showed that my body was making antibodies to fight the virus (if I remember rightly). As a precaution I had extra scans. All was fine. No fluid build-up, which is what they're looking out for.

So what I'm saying is that yes, it's worth mentioning and yes they may send you for blood tests/scans. But acc to my consultant the chances of it affecting the baby are v v v v v v v small.

I know you will still worry, because I think we all would. Part of me wished my friend hadnt said anything and then I'd have been none the wiser!

Good luck and HTH Smile

My Dd had slapped cheek when i was pregnant too.

My Midwife took a blood test and it showed that I already had immunity to it. Most women do, apparently.

I had to laugh though that on the bumpf I was given from nursery, I was told that it was contagious and therefore she was not to be taken to nursery because of the risk to pregnant women. Instead she stayed at home 24/7 with her pregnant mother for 2 weeks!

Hi I think my dd had this I went to docs Monday and requested bloods to see if I'm immune or been in contact recently. Should get results weds/thurs. As you are only 12wks I would get to docs in the morning and just ask if they could check bloods. It can be dangerous up until 20wks is what the doctor told me. Even of you are not 100% sure it is slapped cheek they will test u still. Oh and I'm 14wks
