Hi,
We are about to move home. We currently have Virgin landline, broadband (good speed, no probs) and basic tv package (poor choice, no pause/ record options, bad movies you can pay extra for). We pay about £33 a month.
I am due a baby at end of May & although I know I will be busy, I fancy getting Sky and being able to pause/ record etc for when the wee one sleeps (hopeful) and when we are stuck in a bit more.
Would you get everything from Sky? Are they good for phone & broadband?
I don't want to pay too much.
Thanks

We were with Virgin, went to Sky for a year, back to Virgin now so much better, Sky didn't have the facility to watch missed programs and the bt phone line which fed the computer was painfully slow, the dish gave us problems when there was snow, wind, rain, scaffolding next door, bird sitting on it........

We have a freeview (freeview.co.uk) box - lets you do all the stuff a skybox does (rewind live tv, series link etc), but without the hundreds of channels you don't watch. Not sure how much the box costs compared to what Sky charge - I'd check prices on amazon and then buy somewhere else... .

Netflix have just launched in this country - tempting... lovefilm are always having intro packages (and the maternity junk mail bags - bountry or whatever probably has fliers).

We use vodafone for our landline and broadband (but they have farmed it out to a new company).

My best advice is to get all those box sets from friends and family that you've never had time to watch before. We watched loads when our first son was born. Never had the when the second baby arrived...

Good luck !

I don't know how Virgin's tv is, but, the broadband sucks! O2's is so much more reliable a cheaper as you can buy a smaller package but, be better served as their connection is lot more stable than Virgin. If you're an O2 customer you can even get a discount.
Lovefilm's service is also pretty shoddy as you cannot properly choose what you want to watch when you receive DVDs at home. You have a priority list, and if they don't have the films that you want to watch they'll just end up sending you something else in the same "category". Also their online library is really poor and the streaming quality is bad. I'm holding on for Netflix to see how it develops in the UK, but, I've seen their online library and it isn't as good as in the US, so I'm feeling disappointed.

We have the Virgin TiVo service which lets you stop and rewind live TV and also record anything, it's also HD. I love it. We got a new TV before xmas and managed to wangle the TiVo upgrade for free, but if you can't do that (threaten to leave and see what they offer) then you just have to pay a one off of £50 for the box and then £3 per month on top of your normal package so long as you have at least M+ TV package. I find the broadband really good, plus Virgin are doubling everyones speeds in the next 18mths, if you want you would be able to pay for 100mb.

I love my TiVo although I have never had Sky.

there's not much point in doubling speed if the connection is faulty and uneven :(
I'm paying 32 pounds for telephone and broadband with virgin and I really regret it, unfortunately I can't change it as I'm in a rented flat.

We have Freesat (HD) and Lovefilm though I'm pondering Netflix given we also have an Xbox.

Best thing about our Freesat is it's a slingbox so you can watch over the internet - perfect for watching One Born Every Minute on the laptop in bed!

We did have Sky but were paying ridiculous money for channels we never watched. And the HD box hard drive was tiny compared to our new box and they wouldn't upgrade us to the 1 terrabyte disk despite our having been customers for 4 years. Bah. Their loss!

We've got sky plus but I really want the TiVo thing which I've played with at mums and looks brilliant.
There's loads of films on there for free or cheap whereas I find the choice of films on sky a bit limited.
