28 week midwife app

Hiya I have my 28 week appointment with the midwife tomorrow morning, should I expect the 3 minute, no time for questions rush iv had at 16 & 24 weeks?
I think I read somewhere I should have a blood test between 26-30 weeks is this true or did I dream it? Lol if it's true what are they testing for? And does this happen tomorrow?

Also I'm sure I should be starting an antenatal class - have no idea how it works & my midwife hasn't mentioned it, how do I get this sorted, or will she have it all organised tomorrow?

Thanks
Hayley xx

Hello! I have 28 week community midwife appt tomorrow too...but had letter about a month ago requesting I went in to hospital for routine blood tests this morning, which I have now done, and was also advised to book my antenatal classes right away when I had my booking in appt back in Sept as they fill up so fast. This may just be in my area (S London) but it seems nothing apart from scans and bloods are booked in for you, its just left up to you to follow the guide in the pregnancy notes and make plans for yourself.
As to length of appt, am not expecting any different to last time, except was told they'd measure my bump this time round. As far as I can tell tho, its different in different regions, so you probably just need to check with your midwife tomorrow.

Hi Hayley, at my 28 week appt the mw did take bloods again, but it was just like at my booking appt - they take them and send them away (and then I assume they contact you if it shows up anything). Not entirely sure what they were testing for though Blush.

In terms of the other questions etc I always try to write a list as I think of them before the appt and then I don't forget to ask things in the 'rush'.

I'd just ask the mw about the ante natal classes - I bet it varies from area to area as to how you book on them (or if they even run NHS ones - when I was pg with DS we had to go to a really early one because of holidays and work commitments, but it turned out that they stopped running them after that one due to staff shortages!)

So I would say that overall it will be similar to your previous appts, but they'll take blood as well as measure your bump, listen with the Doppler, poke and prod a bit, chit chat a bit?

So if you go with your list at the ready you can make sure you don't forget to ask anything as you're ushered out of the door Smile

I had my 28 week check last week. It really is just a routine check of urine, blood pressure for you and fundal height, baby position and baby heartbeat. The MW will take bloods (which are basically repeating the booking blood tests) which she will send off.

I also had my Anti-D injection (as I am Rh-).

We had a generally chat about how I'm feeling atc.

If you have any questions you want to ask, write them down and take them along.

My 28 week was a 5 min wee, BP, Doppler and fundal height appt. She was supposed to do my bloods then as well. But I'd been at the hospital the day before for my Anti-D and they'd took them then

MrsHoarder · 06/02/2012 16:08

It was a wee, fundal height and bloods appt, but I thought they all were unless you are/become high risk. I always go in with a short (post-it) list of questions to ask, and just ask at the start of the appt.

In fact with absent-mindedness kicking in, I now stick the post-it to my notes so I don't forget it!

Thanks ladies Smile I honestly think I would have been totally lost without mumsnet, my midwife hasn't helped one bit - all my questions are answered by all of you - thank you Grin

Grin just had my appointment, saw a different midwife from usual and she was lovely. Didn't rush me took her time and didn't make me feel like a pain in the bum for asking a question!
Have to get my bloods taken at my local hospital so didn't have them today. Makes such a difference having a decent midwife who's willing to give you 10 minutes. I usually come out feeling disappointed. Smile
