Hi,

I am suffering with a pain on the right handside of by lower back/hip. Nothing really eases it and it is starting to really effect me walking etc. It never radiates to the lefthand side. I know baby Harry likes to lay in my pelvis but can't see how this causes the pain.

I thought it could have been constipation (tmi) but it is equally as painful after going to the bathroom. My DP and I had a theory that it could be as a result from me falling out of bed last weekend (very funny and would have been a £250 moment on You've been framed. .

Does anybody have any ideas what it could be?

xx

Sounds like sacro iliac pain - a sort of SPD. Caused by what eraich said. Perfectly normal, but a complete arse to live with. Have you tried taking paracetamol - not often, but can help when you need. I also found that sleeping on top of a duvet on top of my mattress helped. And sleeping with a pillow between my knees. Also ask your midwife for a referral to physio - They see a lot of preg women with this, and you will be given exercises and a giant piece of tubigrip. Hope you get some relief.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 02/02/2012 10:54

Hi thingamajig I will mention it when I see the MW, the stupid thing is I saw her yesterday and I forgot to say anything doh although I was more concerned as to whether Harry is growing okay.

I will try the pillow thing for sure (and if needs must DP can debunk to the spare room LOL). Just wondering is it safe/okay for we PG women to take Ibprufin(SP) as it does say all over the box (to cover bottoms I assume) to ask your GP.

I have been getting pain like this in my right hip since about 28 weeks, it has come and gone though, now 38 weeks and it's come back quite badly. I have found a maternity pillow useful.

Ibuprofen is NOT advised in pregnancy - don't take it!
Get some paracetamol instead.

EdithWeston · 02/02/2012 11:33

I wondered if it might be SPD, with the pain arising from some postural habit which didn't bother you before everything softened.

Thetokengirl · 02/02/2012 11:34

I had this with my 3rd. It was sacroiliac pain. It's a type of SPD and is associated with previous pregancies and previous big babies!
Agree with thingamajig that you need a physio referral if it's starting to interfere with your walking - I was strapped up for the latter part of my pregancy. Also, be warned, it can get worse post delivery (sorry)!

citymumtobe · 02/02/2012 11:36

you might find you have bruised something when you fell. I had the same sort of pain as you, could hardly get out of bed - thought it was a trapped nerve but went to osteopath who said I had bruised lower ribs and cartillege from sneezing while lying on my side in bed. He suggested ice pack on affected area to cool down for 10 mins every hour which did help (warm things aggravate the pain) - also keeping as still and straight as possible. If lying on your back helps you could try that too for a couple of nights if it's too painful on side...

Yummymummyyobe1 · 02/02/2012 12:34

Thanks ladies. I will go and see the Dr/MW.

I saw the physio and got a special support belt for it, which is a help.

The other thing it MIGHT be is kidneys? I have been finding it incredibly difficult to drink enough as, with twins, there's just no space. But whenever I go to the loo, not a lot comes out, so must be dehydrated. Worth therefore drinking a bit more to see if that helps.

thing1andthing2 · 02/02/2012 15:23

Also if it's sort of in your buttock and is twingy it could be sciatica. Worth asking about that too.

Yummymummyyobe1 · 02/02/2012 15:39

Thanks again. I know what you mean stinkingbishop I never seem to stop with the old fluids.

thing1andthing2 I really hope not I got this years ago and it was not nice.

Quick update on this one.

My DP and I went to A& E on the advice of the MW who sent to Delivery as they thought I had gone into labour after an hours monitoring the senior Gyno came in a said she thought it was something for orthopeadics so had them admit me.

I Spent Sunday in hospital and it would appear that I have done something to the ligaments in my hip and leg (usually something to do with with being very active) . Usually a Cortisone shot would be given posy x ray and then crutches being PG I am allowed Paracetamol Yay Wink. Also told to rest (rest I have a job and a life) Currently hobbling around the office in a foul mood wanting drugs stronger than I am allowed.
