Easy pregnancy Easy Birth?

Hiya im 27 + 4 weeks and so far have had a really straight forward and easy pregnancy, my weight gain has been really steady, blood pressure is normal, got about 3 days of morning sickness, and im not yet suffering with any back aches or anything. I was wondering if an easy healthy pregnancy could possibly mean im in for an easier birth? (desperatly hoping wishing and praying this is the case anyway lol)

Quite a few of my friends have had babies in the last month and the ones who really suffered during pregnancy and had really tuff labours.

Im hoping to have a labour just like the girl on one born every minute the other week that made her own water birth outfit - the baby just seemed to slip out - and she was super calm :)

Do you reckon the type of labour you have has anything what so ever to do with the kind of pregnancy you have?

Hayley xx

Probably not want your wanting to hear but I had a lovely pregnancy. I didn't even know I was pregnant until I was 19 weeks (don't ask!) and I had quite a difficult birth.

I think the best way is to do what the woman on OBEM the other week, try not to get to scared of the pain and go with the flow.

Good luck though.

Nope sorry.

This thread pops up quite a lot and the answer is always the same. What happens during labour and delivery is quite a lot to do with luck and little to do with how easy/hard the pregnancy is. And in particular is dependent upon the baby. What position it's in, its head circumference, whether their hands are up by their face, where the cord is etc. I mean pregnancy is a lot of luck too but there are things you can do during pregnancy (exercise, eat well, relax etc) which can make you feel better. With labour you get what you're given and while you can try and nudge things in the right direction, it's something over which you have little control.

And on a personal level I had two very very easy pregnancies and two extremely difficult and long labours both ending in emergency caesareans.

No. Sorry. I had a great pregnancy and really crap birth. It is luck.

You still have a long way to go with your pregnancy. I hope your pregnancy remains easy. However you still have the third triemester to come and that is often the toughest part of pregnancy.

I had a horrid third triemester with dd but a really easy labour.

I suspect every woman on the planet wants a birth experience like that. I think that hypnotheraphy and active birth classes do improve your chances, however a lot is down to luck. In the past childbirth was a huge killer of women and many babies were stillborn. Hospital birth was not set up for fun.

I think that hynotherapy helps you to forget the risks. If you lose the fear then it dramatically reduces the pain. Being relaxed helps your body get on with the job of giving birth. You haven't thrown caution to the wind, you have delegated the worrying to the midwife.

I had pre-eclampsia in both of my third trimesters and GD in the third with my first pregnancy. Although most pregnancies are relatively problem free you can't always predict which ones will have problems later on. My consultant says that even women with high bp normally tend to have falsely low bps until 30wks and above. As for the easy labours, it's the luck of the draw. I had bad third trimesters on both of mine and the labours were fine.

Sorry - no. First pregnancy v easy, felt great. Ended in EMCS for fetal distress. Caught me by surprise as I had assumed that because my pregnancy had been so easy, I would have a straightforward birth. I had not really read up on what happens during a CS (and antenatal classes were crap in this regard also) so felt very out of control when everything went pear shaped.

Second pregnancy - tough. Minor SPD, was very uncomfortable for all of last trimester. Had fairly easy VBAC birth.

Easy low risk pregnancy , labour went from hospital debating to send me home to a crash section under a general within minutes, leaving me traumatised.

TimothyClaypoleLover · 01/02/2012 12:49

Hi Hayley, just wanted to post a positive comment. I had easy first pregnancy and relatively easy birth.

However, I do think it is complete pot luck and depends on various factors including how well you cope with the pain of childbirth. As shown from the posts here, everyone is different in their experiences.

Good luck! I am currently 26 weeks with second baby and hoping (or rather praying) birth is like the first one.

scarletfingernail · 01/02/2012 12:50

Not in my experience. I sailed through my first pregnancy, no problems whatsoever. The birth however was horrendous. The baby was back to back from start to finish, the first 2 days of early labour were almost as painful as the 3rd day which was established labour. Complete and utter agony from beginning to end. Episotomy and forceps required due to fetal distress in the end.

I imagine everyone fantasises about having a labour like the lady on OBEM the other week, some people do have labours like that and many people don't. I don't believe what type of pregnancy you have has anything to do with it.

BabiesNeedInstructions · 01/02/2012 13:48

I'm afraid not here either - had a very easy pg last time, not sick once and felt tired but great throughout. Was signed off for a waterbirth suite and very low risk. Ended up with a 5 day labour (yes, 5 days) followed by an epidural and forceps delivery.

The good news is they seem to be unrelated as others have said, so you're not going to have a particularly bad labour just because you've had a good pg. You never know what you're going to get so plan for the unexpected and go with the flow.

melliebobs · 01/02/2012 14:25

i think it will be the complete opposite. I'm 37+3. Had no morning sickness, was able to carry on with work (I have a really active job) until 36 weeks, steady and minimal weight gain, no heartburn, no nothing really. Oh apart from a UTI at 26 weeks which was quickly cleared up.

I personally thing my lil girl has been so good on the inside she's saving up all the drama for her big appearance!!!!

Alligatorpie · 01/02/2012 14:28

Worked for me, easy pg, 4 hour labour from start to finish!

Hope this one will be as easy!

pinkpeony · 01/02/2012 14:36

Worked for me, I had 2 very easy pregnancies and births (so it does happen!). I found staying fit throughout the pregnancy (and not putting on too much weight) made it easier for me to deal with labour and birth (plus the epidurals helped).
