Hi all went to final scan and consultant appt today and got the info above. Baby had been measuring big previously but midwife said it was piffle brought this up with Dr. who said that midwife opinion was piffle. Anyhoo they are going to check for gestational diabetes on Thursday which is good. Just a bit concerned that I will be delivering a toddler sized baby, at what point do they intervene? at this rate he will be walking out of the hospital.

Also amniotic fluid was measuring low, what does this mean?

Any advice gratefully received or any questions that I should be assertively asking the Dr. rather than passively riding the conveyor belt.

So they measured 42 weeks by ultrasound not fundal height, right? Is this your first or how large were your other babies?
If they are concerned about the size and not much amniotic fluid they'll recommend induction but it's very unlikely to be offered before 37 weeks at the earliest and usually closer to term if they are not very worried. Make sure you report changes in fetal movement too, if any, as this will also indicate of baby is well or if lack of fluid is affecting his well being. Best of luck.

Hi, I was the same with DS2 (he measured big practically from the get go). Was induced at 37 weeks and 5 days and he was 8lb 7oz, and all went well (I do remember getting a bit freaked out at the ultrasound which was done before the decision to induce (3 days before it happened), by the sonographer sighing a lot and muttering about a very large abdomen (DS's that is), but dr reassured us that it was all fine, he was just big and would be easier on us all to induce him). He's 4 now and still very big for his age!

At 26 weeks I was measuring 40 weeks fundal height as I had a lot of fluid. I was always measuring 4 or 5 weeks over by ultrasound too. DC1 was induced at 39 weeks and she was 9lb 7.5oz and DC2 was natural labour at 38 weeks who was 8lb 11oz. Big babies but not very big.

Hi yes, They did this by ultrasound, it is my first baby.

Don't mind if they decide to induce but Dr. doesn't want to see me until I am 41 weeks by which point baby will be measuring 47 wks!

She said as long as I deliver on time everything will be ok, not convinced right now Confused

You're absolutely right, georgethecat I wouldn't be happy with decision to see you at 41 weeks either! Plus it's your first so they don't know what size of baby you'll be able to handle without too much trouble (it'd be different if you'd already delivered a 10 pounder!). Please insist on talking to the consultant again or a different one, you really don't need to see the same doctor again. What I would say is that when you reach term (37 weeks) you want them to carry out an assessment of the risk\benefits of not interfering.
I don't want to alarm you but ultrasound is not perfect but can be quite accurate and I wouldn't like a very large baby to get stuck if it can at all be avoided. Let me know. Good luck.

Thanks, I will. I just want the option of induction and delivering as naturally as possible as opposed to too late we'll do a cs.
Thanks for the advice.

P.s. the father is 6ft7 so I knew it was going to be a big bugger!

Hi georgethecat just wanted to say that I gave birth yesterday (was induced) and my little boy weighed 9lb 1 oz at 39+3 weeks. Based on the the scan I had at 34 weeks he was going to be 9 oz at 40 weeks. I had a brilliant midwife during labour and I pushed him out fine without birth injuries but I would not have wanted him to be any bigger than he is!
Hope you're getting somewhere with your doctor. I did find that you have to be resolute in what you want and just not take no for an answer when it comes to your birth choices!
Good luck

Congratulations! Well your weight predictions were spot on weren't they. Thanks for your advice, I am going to be a bit more assertive, I think you have to be even to get the information required.
Good luck with your little newbie, I'm glad you had a good experience!
