Hi I had severe hyperemesis during my pregnancy with dd and was taken to hospital 7 times to be put on a drip as i was dehydrated etc from all the throwing up. we want to try for another baby soon and as much as i do want another littleone im a bit scared that i'll go through hyperemesis again. i was wondering if anyone did suffer from it and how their other pregnancys went.
thanks.

I had it pretty badly for my first pg - although not hospitalised. The moment I started feeling sick with pg2 I was straight down the GPs demanding drugs Grin After a bit of persuasion she eventually agreed and I was fine - only sick four or five times in total. It wasn't just going through what I did the first time that resulted in this course of action - I could have coped with that. It was the thought of going through it again whilst trying to look after a 2yo I couldn't have done that. My DD is now 7.5yo - with no side effects at all from the medication.

thanks a lot. that does put me at ease a bit. as dd is now 2 as well and i dont think i'll be able to cope at all if i had it the same as last time. what drugs did u get btw?

I can't remember what the GP called it - but I know it is also known as phenergan (sp?) which is an antihistimine. It is also used for travel sickness. It made me feel like a zombie for 3 months but at least I didn't feel sick all the time and wasn't throwing up 24/7 Grin As you had it so badly last time, I would go and have a chat with your GP in advance and see what they say. Of course you may be lucky and not have it at all this time - not every one has it every time.

Hi, I was the same - hosptitalised during my first 2 pregnancies for hyperemesis. I am now 8 weeks pg (not easy with a 4yo and a 2.5yo :( ), but this time I have been prescribed cyclizine, which is definitely helping me.
I am still throwing up every day, but usually only once in the morning, and can now keep food/some fluid down in the day, so no deyhrdation problems.

My previous GPs refused to give me anything, I moved surgeries, and was insistent this time. Also some will only prescribe a weeks supply - I have also challenged this to get more as I needed it.

Good luck.

I love the cyclizine my doctor gave me.

I had tried some over the counter anti-nausea tablets in the early days, but they didn't work and I ended up being admitted to hospital for 2 days after losing too much fluid and ending up dehydrated.

Got the cyclizine tablets after that and take 2 a day to keep the vomit at bay.

Didn't have anything like this in first pregnancy, was a shock when it happened this time round!

OP - from my experience the GP was very sympathetic, had many other patients who'd needed similar treatment and when I was in hospital the nurses were all lovely.
