Any 'older' pregnant ladies out there?

Hi I'm 43 and 9 weeks pregnant! I feel like a freak and don't know anyone of a similar age in the same position. I'm happy to be pg especially as I have had 4 miscarriages since ds was born 7 years ago, but had put all ideas of babies out of my head a good few years back. I have had an early scan and we have a heartbeat so all good so far, but can't bring myself to tell anyone yet. I'd love to chat to other 40 something's to see how your coping.

Just bumping for you.

I am - thank goodness! - not pregnat (and never will be again Grin), but had DS4 just before my 44th birthday. It was all good Smile and he is now 22 months old.

There are lots of more life-experience pregnant/TTC ladies about here - they have their own thread.

I am sure one of them will be along, or I'll link if I can find it.

pregnant, sorry

Hi Boggler, I am not a regular poster on mumsnet but look in now and again. Congratulations you must be really excited. You are certainly NOT a freak. I am 45 and in week 37 of my pregnancy which has been just the same as my previous 3. It really isn't that unusual these days and my midwife and doctors barely even bat an eyelid at my age. In fact there are some other mums at the school gates of around my age who have admitted that they are rather envious. Enjoy it!

I too felt a bit freaky in the early days of pregnancy. Partly because I couldn't really believe it was happening. I'm 45 and just coming up to 34 weeks. Have one DD age 25...!
Like maddymax my experience so far is that the healthcare providers are reassuringly uninterested in my age.
Physically I'm finding this pregnancy quite hard although I have been healthy throughout, just finding the heaviness and a bit of SPD hard to cope with. But, my 45 year old body is a bit different to my 19 year old one so not really very surprising.
We're very excited about our imminent arrival and DH (turned 50 last year) is very pleased with himself!!
That's really good news Boggler about your early scan. I wish you well over the next few months and as madddymax said, enjoy.
x

I'm 38 and due any day - my GP was utterly brilliant about me being a little bit older and reassured me massively. I must say I'm somewhat tired with the aches and pains but can't WAIT for the baby (due anyway now!)

DD2 is nearly 3 weeks old and I'm 40. No one batted an eyelid at my age, was never even mentioned.

Congratulations :)

DD was 3 weeks old on my 41 st birthday in november; ds was three and two months. Age was never mentioned in either pg, except in connection with increased risk of genetic abnormalities. I know plenty of mumsnet of preschoolers and babies in late thirties and forties..
