Im new to this so bear with me, this is sort of a general rant/help if you've been in my situation post

I'm currently 15+4 and i applied for a managers job within my company 3 weeks ago. The company have no idea I'm pregnant yet as I didn't want this to affect my chances. I know that they can't discriminate but I know that my boss wouldn't even consider me knowing I'll be taking mat leave in 6 months. So I've kept it quiet, and waited on an interview, but nothing!

Unfortunately I'm in a situation where whilst thre are no problems nothing is being done, I'm managing just fine doing the job, with a couple of days rest bite from another manager, it's just frustrating not telling anyone because of work!!

Also my working conditions are poor, no hot water, black mould n the building, damp, falling den ceilings, I know I need to tell them for a h&s assessment to be done, but we've put up with it for that long I can't imagine that I'll change that!

I know it sounds crap but I enjoy my job, I'm just frustrated at the min with the situation!

Also because I've told the bear minimum of people my mum thinks I'm in denial about my pregnancy and is trying to smother me, I'm not a fussy person, so the attention isn't really appreciated!

Anyway any help advice would be appreciated! X

So you want advice on:

Your work situation re promotion - yup don't tell them. They may not be thrilled when they find out but that's not your problem.

Being frustrated you can't tell work colleagues about the pregnancy - well that's the way that is. It will be worth it - and just as exciting when you do tell them.

Working conditions - you need to ask for action on this as a health and safety issue and you need to ask immediately. Just saying 'there's no point' is the surest way to ensure nothing is changed!

Your mother - tell her to back off, you're thrilled to be pg but you want space!

Congratulations Smile

Naww thanks, you've just made my day replying!
With regards to health and safety, I must speak to them about it weekly and just get " it's being looked into"

Is it really bad I secretly want the pipes to burst so they are forced to do something? ( they freeze when it gets cold)

The pipes freeze? How cold does your office/workspace get? There is a legal minimum temperature.

how are you asking weekly? Ig it's verbal, forget it. You need to be e-mailing or writing and keeping copies so you build up a body of evidence both of your request and their response. Can you see what needs to be done? Might be worth adopting another approach and saying say 'the gutters need clearing out - can I get x in to do it at y price please?' Sometimes things slip because people are too busy to see what needs to be arranged. Actually getting on and showing you can make a plan and carry it through can be really helpful. Of course if this is resisted then that shows they are not having a proper regard for the H&S of their employees. In that case I would suggest ringing the HSE for advice. (From your mobile or home number!)

Yea, the temperature is above 16 in the immediate working areas, it's the rest of the building that's cold

It's a mix, calls, emails & reports. They are well aware of the problems they just don't want to fork out for the repairs! The annoying thing being if they fixed it 2 years ago when it was first reported, minimal work would have been needed!

I'm part of a union & I know they generally carry a lot of weight so may ask them too

Definately get your union on the case then. When you tell them you're pg you should have a risk assessment for that as well.
