Baby clothes

My first baby is due on April 26th and I need some advice on what clothes to get him in advance. I'm really worried about turning up to the hospital with the wrong things.
I have three long sleeved and long legged sleep suits and three short sleeved sleep suits without legs. If the weather is typically end of Aprilish should I take the long sleeved ones to the hospital? Will he be cold in the shorter sleeved ones?
Also, I know that people will buy me stuff but how many sleep suits did you have to start with?
It's all so confusing and I don't want to be a bad Mummy and not have the right stuff for my little bundle of joy.

Hiya I'm due April 28th and have been thinking about the same thing! Can't offer any answers but will lurk your thread lol. Iv been told to include a hat and mits in the baby bag I was thinking 2 of each (short sleeved no legs and legs) I'm sure if you are short or your in for longer than expected someone can pop home for you. My hospital only allow 6 hour stay after birth unless it's the middle of the night so am thinking I should need too much. Also most people seem to bring a coming home outfit if that's something that's important to you xx

take a few short-sleeved "vests" with poppers to go under the sleepsuits. And make sure you have some changes, even if you're not planning to be in hospital that long. meconium is evil stuff and you won't want to try to wipe it off a sleepsuit and reuse, and little boys can wee on anything....

Most people will buy you stuff for a bit later IME, so age 3-6 months we got mostly. All the newborn and 0-3 sizes we bought ourselves.

The ones without legs are vests, I was confused by this at first too as expected a best to look more like well, a vest! For April you should be fine in a vest with babygro over the top, and a cardigan is very useful for cooler days.

If it suddenly warms up, you can get sleep suits without feet or if very warm, fine in just a vest on its own (plus nappy! Smile)

Hope this helps? Oh and I'd get 8 vests and 6 babygros I reckon, to get started. You can always pop to the supermarket for more.

Good luck!

I've been having similar thoughts - I'm 35 weeks, due at the beginning of March. We've now bought a good few packs of newborn and 0-3 vests and sleepsuits plus a hat and some mitts. I keep reading on lists of clothing essentials that you should have a couple of cardigans. Is this to go on top of a vest and sleepsuit? Seems a bit excessive but maybe babies struggle to keep warm? Also, will I need some sort of big warm quilted all-in-one number to bring him home from hospital and for general outdoor-wear? Thanks!

Cardi's are great for popping over a vest and a sleep suit. If you are literally just going from hospital to car to home I wouldn't worry about packing a snowsuit; just a cardi and a snuggly blanket. One hat will be enough; they don't need to wear them when inside. IME scratch mitts come off very easily so best to buy sleep suits with turn over cuffs.

Third dc...I'm taking 3 vests, 3 sleepsuits, one little jacket/cardi type thing to go home in and a hat! If I end up staying longer will despatch DP for more.

Family & friends will enjoy buying you baby clothes but most ime are little 'outfits' rather than the practical stuff you'll use day to day so I'd say it's good to have about 8 vests and babygrows, you can go through heaps some days.
