Hi

I have had a really wriggly baby all the way through this pregnancy. I am due on Wed and as expected things have slowed down a bit in the last week or so but in the last 24hrs very little movement at all. i have felt the baby but not often. Should I put it down to the imminent arrival? Typically its snowing so not easy to get out to see anyone!!

thanks

If you can get out i would go and get checked out, especially as you are 39+ just incase. good luck

Pinner35 · 30/01/2012 12:40

Please get checked over.....best of luck.

ShowOfHands · 30/01/2012 12:41

It is an absolute myth that movement should slow down at the end. Quality maybe, quantity NO.

It is probably absolutely nothing but you must get checked out.

workshy · 30/01/2012 12:43

please ring either the maternity unit or your midwife and tell them

as others have said it's probably nothing but it is something you need some proffessional advice about

GinSlinger · 30/01/2012 12:44

yes get checked please - it's probably nothing but it's better to be sure.

startail · 30/01/2012 12:49

Get ye to your maternity unit, they will check you out. They will not mind and they will not think you are being silly.
I have been there and got the tea shirtGrin
Good luck.

Definitely go

You need to be monitored

MrsHoarder · 30/01/2012 13:49

Give them a ring and be prepared to go. Of course if things are about to start and its hard to get to hospital, you're better going sooner rather than later so that you aren't panicing in the snow whilst in established labour anyway!

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 30/01/2012 13:55

Yes. Get checked now. Better safe than sorry! Seriously!

south345 · 30/01/2012 13:58

I say get checked too, better to be safe than sorry. there has only been a tiny bit of snow here so far.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 30/01/2012 14:11

Any change op? Have you been checked yet?

Pozzled · 30/01/2012 14:16

OP, I hope you haven't posted again because you've gone to get checked. If not, please do go.

Good luck, hope all is ok.

Middledaughter · 31/01/2012 16:11

Thank you to everyone who posted. I went in last night to be monitored. All seemed well but they've said the movements slowing down may well be a sign things are soon to kick off and if I feel reduced movement again I should come in to be induced which I really don't want. I was planning to go to a local midwife unit which won't be possible if they think I should be induced. I had a fairly rotten time last time (forceps etc) and was really keen to avoid it. To add to it they've said the baby is now lying back to back. Having just done some reading, going for the low risk birth I had planned seems madness if the baby is in that position. My midwife thinks it will turn in time but no guarantee. Any advice please?

back to back labour doesn't always mean intervention. My DD2 was back to back and I had her in under 2 hours, at home. Granted, they didn't realise she was in that position until she did an 180 degree turn as she came out but even so, despite being incredibly painful (not helped by the midwives forgetting to bring a mouthpiece for the gas and air so I had no pain relief at all Angry) it was manageable.

I found being on all fours the best, not sure if it actually helped but it was how I felt most comfortable. Keeping as upright and active as you can in early labour will help too.

And remember, there is still time for baby to turn round. Good luck op :)

Middledaughter · 31/01/2012 16:26

thank you v much. I am just so cross as I have got myself into a positive frame of mind after a really difficult first birth, told on Fri the baby was in a perfect position then told about back to back yesterday and I'm terrified again. So silly because I know that won't help!

Middle have you looked at the Spinning Babies website? I know a few people who've used the techniques and their babies have moved (i.e. from breech to head down, from posteria to front facing). Have a look at this link: spinningbabies.com/techniques/the-inversion

Obviously you'll have to judge if you feel up to doing this at 40 weeks... Other advice I've been given is to sit on a birthing ball as much as you can; spend as much time on your hands and knees as possible (or even better with your head below your bum, like 'cat pose' in yoga); and make sure your not slumping back in chairs, in the car, or sleeping on your back. Basically anything you can do to make space in there helps and makes it more likely bub will turn. Anything which reduces space (leaning back etc.) encourages them to stay back to back.

Good luck and hope that helps...

thank you very much hpg I will try anything!!

Oh I'm so relieved that everything is fine. Smile you need to get down and scrub the floors. Apparently that's a great position for baby turning! Grin

Glad your ok and hope your baby decides to wiggle into a favourable position soon.
