Hello everyone, i've just joined tonight, i'm just starting my 2nd trimester with my 2nd child, but having very different side effects this time round ha.

But i still worry endlessly about everything. Right now i'm worried drinking cordial and cola will effect my baby, sounds abit dramatised but i worry drinking them will cause some kind of hyperactivity or brain development problem when its born? I know i sound off my rocker lol.

Too much cola might be a caffeine issue. A few cans of coke won't hurt though.

Cordial will do no harm whatsoever surely? It isn't on the NHS list of things to avoid!
Stop worrying.

The only thing I would say be careful of is the caffeine in cola. If you are drinking that and nothing else it would be a problem, but everything in moderation is my general rule :)

Dont think it causes the baby any problems, but I had cravings for coke-cola when pg with ds2 and my blood sugar levels(?) flew up along with the amount of fluid around the baby. I stopped and the fluids and levels went back to normal! I was only drinking one can every couple of days, but it seemed to have an adverse effect.

I've been drinking alot milk and water, but the last few days i was drinking big pints of cordial, i only drink cola when i go out to eat or the odd can once a week in the house, i know its not alot but i still worry just that bit of caffiene and sugar will cause adverse effects. there is so much about on the net that scares you, i must admit i didn't drink much cola or anything with my first, but this time round i feel guilty for fancying it more.

Stop reading crap on the net if it is scaring you to the extent where you think a bit of Robinsons squash is harmful to a fetus! Honestly, if it's not on the NHS list of what not to have, it's fine. Too much cola is bad for you anyway regardless of your pregnancy status. Rots your teeth and all that.

As others have said Cordial is absolutely fine and won't affect tour baby. If you are worried about the high sugar in some cordials for your own health then choose a low sugar variety or flavour your water with some fruit juice instead. With coke you need to be careful about drinking too much caffeine esp. If you drink coffee and tea. If you are craving it then get some of the caffeine free ones.

I think i've read that it's not so good drink diet fizzy drinks like diet coke as they have large amounts of sweeteners in them. But lots of foods - like low fat yoghurt have sweeteners, so I'm not really sure, maybe someone else knows.

Thanks ladies, yes i really should stop reading the net, it drives me mad, i just really want to give my baby the best start. I don't have coffee or tea, i'm not a lover of hot drinks, i mainly drink water/milk or juice, i love my cola but have really limited myself, i hear your limit is 2 cans a day which i personally think is alot, i probably have 1 can a week or a cola when i eat out
