Help! Babybay cot is too low for our bed. Clever ideas needed to raise it.

We have bought a Babybay cot (this sort, but failed to check the height of our bed first. It turns out that our bed is clearly unusually high, and the top of the cot is pretty much level with the top of our mattress. Ooops. Ideas I have considered to make the cot higher are screwing on some coffee table legs to the base of the cot or standing it on concrete blocks (wrapped in fabric so as not to damage the floor and to look a bit less industrial Grin). I just wondered if any of you clever MNers have any ideas? Thanks.

Those blocks you get to raise the head of a cot when baby has a cold/reflux could work. They are more secure than popping up on books etc, but depending on the height needed you might need a couple of packs. We have these but you'd need to check the legs of your cot would fit in them.

Buy a new bed! Grin

(sorry not helpful at all but couldn't resist!)

We were about to buy that exact same bed, but now you have me really worried as my superking divan is an absolute monster!

Sorry I have no ideas but please let me know if you manage to solve the problem?

LoveInAColdClimate · 28/01/2012 20:46

Thanks, Wriggle. The thing with those blocks is that the cot doesn't have legs, just a sort of bottom rail (as seen in picture). So I don't think they would be very stable. They would be perfect if it had legs, though, although actually I think it needs raising at least six inches so might be a bit wobbly.

morethemerrier - we did think about swapping it with the guest bed, but we don't think our giant mattress would go up the stairs (the guest room is on the floor above us). I have also considered losing the divan for six months and just putting the mattress on the floor, but we've got nowhere to store the base plus I think the mattress on the floor would be tricky if I end up with a c sesction or awful birth.

Poppy - I'll let you know! The cot is such a great idea, I really hope we can find a workable solution...

If it's a divan bed on wheels then take the wheels off.

The description of the cot says that it has roller castors. If it does then cot blocks could work if it's a matter of 10cm-ish. Any more than that and I don't think it would be safe.

As you're having a baby and spending a shedload of money anyway, just buy yourselves a new bed :o

It looks like a lovely cot, I would go for your brieze block idea, looking at the base in the pictures.

Wrigglebum · 28/01/2012 21:34

A low coffee table then?
Looks like a gorgeous cot but seems a bit of a design flaw if it can't cope with a divan bed.

LoveInAColdClimate · 29/01/2012 10:29

I would go with the new bed idea but having spent an appalling amount of money on this one four years ago I don't think it's an option to persuade DH! I have come up with the idea of screwing it onto an old TV table we have, which would be a nice secure base (thanks for the coffee table idea which inspired it). Going to try and do it later so will let you know if it works. Thanks for all the ideas.

I'd go with the mattress on the floor idea if you can find somewhere to store the divan on its side. Like millions/billions of women around the world I slept on a low level futon bed when I had my DCs, it's unlikely to be a problem.
