Ive been panicing about this as I have a 11 month old kitten who goes out alot at the minute and likes to bring the odd dead bird in our garden Hmm nice I know. I have read all the guidelines etc and always get dp to empty the litter tray etc, but I have had a cat in the house all my life so Ive heard chances are I have already had this or something Confused

can anyone give me any reassurance and tell me Im overreacting before I go crazy with all this worrying.

It'll all be fine! Yes, make sure DH does the litter tray or wear gloves if you have to do it but what better excuse to avoid it, eh? Leave the gardening to DH, too and make sure you wash your veggies as it can be in soil, I think.

Don't panic though, lots of pregnant people have cats and everything is fine and if you've had cats all your life, you might be immune.

You can also catch it from eating raw/undercooked meats (probably more likely) so be careful with those too.

Just after some advice. 22 weeks pregnant and got an 8 week old kitten not knowing that it’s not advised to get a new cat/kitten while pregnant. OB’s advised to just not clean the litter tray and all would be fine. However I am negative to Toxo (despite having cats/kittens for 24 years). I decided to get the kitten tested to ease my mind and she actually came back positive for a recent infection! We found a home for her straight away and I never touched the litter tray (poo was always scooped promptly by husband) and always had good hand hygiene after any contact with her but I’m absolutely terrified that I’ve put my baby at risk and thinking the absolute worst. My OB seemed concerned once I told him she tested positive and now I have to wait for a blood test to show if I’ve contracted it. Should I be concerned that I had contact with her? Or do you literally have to consume the poo to catch it?
