How many weeks do you think you are?

MoreDeadlier · 26/01/2012 20:56

Me too! 2 hours?? you guys don't hang about :) Got my docs appointment on Monday, not sure whats going to happen, it's all new from now on!

Dozeyland · 26/01/2012 20:58

I've had both of my 'booking in' appointments with both pregnancies at 9 weeks. but you can see your GP before-hand. I did :)

Sparklingbrook · 26/01/2012 21:00

It's a bit of an anti climax at the doctors. Sad I didn't bother going until I was 10 weeks, so that I was in the system for the 12 week scan. Grin He's 12 now.

Sparklingbrook · 26/01/2012 21:00

Oh, and congratulations by the way. Smile

VickityBoo · 26/01/2012 21:01

2 hours lol!!

I was so so excited I hardly believed it so went straight to the gp surgery and was seen by a lovely nurse who took a urine sample to confirm! It's not standard but she knew I needed reassuring. Then she gave me loads of info and arranged the booking in appointment for me. It is a while off, I didn't see a midwife for a while.

Then you'll have the 12wk scan to look forward to. Grin

Yay happy times congratulations.

mistressploppy · 26/01/2012 21:04

Congrats! Just phone and book in with the midwife. I didn't know what to do when pregnant with DC1 and went to see the GP - the conversation went like this:

GP: What can I do for you then?
Me: I think I'm pregnant!
GP: And what do you want me to do about it??? Grin

Then he told me to book to see the midwife and sod off, basically

BabyDustPlease · 26/01/2012 21:11

Oops! Sorry everyone, I meant 2 years hehe!! Thanks for all the advice. I'll get on the phone to docs tomorrow. According to clearblue digital, I'm only about 4 weeks xxx

Congrats! Great news. I got a BFP last week and went to my GP this morning, who was lovely (I had a MMC last year so he was very smiley and saying Congratulations etc) but I was in and out in less than 5 mins as he just referred me to the midwife for a booking in appointment around 8-10 weeks - so maybe don't expect much from the docs appointment!

Congrats again!

TinkerMaloo · 27/01/2012 11:04

ring your surgery and tell the receptionist, she will know whether they like you to see the doc first or just arrange a booking in app with MW.

congrats! :)

Angelico · 29/01/2012 15:49

Agree with Tinker - I phoned our surgery and just asked what happens next. Receptionist was lovely, said don't bother with GP they don't even test now, booked me in with midwife even though I'll only be 5 +5 at first appointment. Congrats! :)

PS: Receptionist was first person to say Congratulations! as obviously no one knows - and it was lovely! :-)

BabyDustPlease · 29/01/2012 16:11

I phoned docs and the receptionist said to make an appointment with the doctors. DH works away Monday-Thursday so I've got an appt with doc on Tuesday, will get that out the way as it sounds like it will be fairly pointless and then hopefully get a midwife appointment that DH can come to.

Thanks for all the advice xxxx

Oooh I just wanted to say congratulations Grin

I too was so excited I booked into see the doctor later that day. She basically told me to sod off was bemused as I unpacked my 6 positive tests onto her desk and told me I really needed the midwife instead.

Angelico · 29/01/2012 18:02

I take it you don't bring DH's along to these appointments? My DH is dying to come lol and was a bit disapointed when I said a first appointment probably wasn't going to be very exciting...

BabyDustPlease · 29/01/2012 18:38

Yes my DH wants to come too but I managed to convince him that we just needed to get the docs one done with and that he could be there for the midwife one!!

Congratulations!

BunnyBear · 29/01/2012 18:56

Many congratulations! Just wanted to add that if the GP knows you've been trying for 2 years (if you had started to go down the fertility investigation route etc) then he/she will want to see you - and I'm sure will be thrilled for you.

DH and I tried for 3 years for our little boy who is now 8 and then spent 4 years trying for our latest and I'm currently 40+1 with a little girlie! Sending you tonnes of sticky glue and lots of love. Smile

VickityBoo · 29/01/2012 20:55

Nah no need for your man to go along it's going to be a quick appointment.

Dp didn't go to any midwife appointments it just never crossed our minds! Scans etc are different, of course.

Angelico · 29/01/2012 20:58

You see VickityBoo I didn't even know there was a difference between midwife and scan appts. Spot the novice! Wink

VickityBoo · 29/01/2012 21:36

Oh!

Well there will be some midwife visits where they might weigh you, measure your bump when you have one and discuss things. The first one is great as you get loads of books and exciting leaflets to look at, such as which nappies to buy etc - that is exciting stuff at first!

Then they're pretty mundane really.

Scans however well, of course your man will want to be there Smile

BabyDustPlease · 30/01/2012 18:55

Thanks for all the info! Its good to know that he doesn't need to come to the midwife ones because it could get difficult when hes miles and miles away.
