36 weeks - any idea what this pain is?

Hello there. This morning I experienced a very harsh pain in my bump and this is the 3rd time in about 3 weeks I've had it, which means I can see a pattern now... I woke up on my back (I know I know it just happens in my sleep!) and then turned over to my side, the pain starts like a Braxton Hicks contraction but lasts for over a minute - almost 5 minutes today. The pain isn't something I can describe easily, it's tight, stretchy painful pain. I can't talk or move during it. Once it's gone nothing happens afterwards and baby has been kicking away as normal.

I've mentioned this to the midwives previously (I never see the same one) and they haven't seemed all that interested. I have an appointment tomorrow so will mention it again but don't expect to get any answers. So I'm wondering if any of you ladies have experienced this and had any thoughts? I thought maybe it might be the baby flipping position and the pain is due to his size now? I hope not as he was in a good head down position at my last check.
Thanks.

It sounds like a mild to moderate practice contraction. Does the bump go very hard and do you feel squeezed? Strange it's only one though.

Thanks for the reply. Yes bump goes very hard and baby does that alien sticking out on one side thing. A practice contraction would make sense at this stage, although it seemed to go on awfully long and then nothing afterwards. Strange!

Come to think of it sometimes I have it too: bump goes hard and stays hard for a prolonged time. I'd never thought of it as a 20 minute long Braxton Hicks but I suppose you could think of it that way. It is difficult to move when you're all rigid like that, isn't it? Oh well, I think that's what it is, I wouldn't worry Smile
