hello
my first labour was 24 hours and established labour was 17 ish hours.
I was put on a drip to help move labour on it was advised that I had a epidural as contractions would become very strong the epidural did not work at all so had to continue on gas and air.
I got to 10cm and then pushed fir 2 hrs to no avail I was taken to theatre given a spinal block episiotomy and my dd was delivered by forceps weighing 6lb11oz.

I found it hard to recover from the episiotomy it was ver psinfull my dd will be 2 next month I still find sex v painfull and I have alot of trouble doing number 2s I tear bleed and get piles and any pressire on the scar tisdue is v uncomfertale!

im quite nervous, about this labour now!
what my options are if I want/need a epidural and it does not work again???
if they cut me or I tear and/or need another forceps delivery what sort of state that will leave me in down below on top of my already troubles??

y friend says I can elect for a csection? is this true? bad idea good idea?

some advice would be much appreciated or other similar exsperiences anything please ladies?!
thanks ems xx

Hi Emsgale. I don't have any advice I'm afraid, but I do feel the same way as you!

I'm 23 weeks with my second baby (first is now 15 months) and my first birth was pretty hairy (pre-eclampsia at 37 weeks, induced, 12 hours violent labour, emergency c-section).

I'm also frightened of the next birth and not sure whether a VBAC or an elected section would be better. I'm not afraid of the pain as such, I'm afraid of not being monitored and supported properly through the birth by midwives (which is why I feel my first labour went so badly). When wards are busy, people slip through the cracks. That happened to me and it could have cost me and my baby terribly if the consultant hadn't have happened to be doing his rounds when he was.

How far along are you? Have you talked to your midwife or consultant about your concerns?

I think that the UK regulations state that any woman has the right to elect for a c-section. Hospitals cannot deny you one (I think!!). Perhaps someone else can comment on this?

My section was very smooth compared to the labour part. It was painful afterwards (though not horrendous and I was cooking dinner 2 days later) but the mobility is what I found the hardest. It was a long road to recovery as well, in that although the pain went quickly I needed a lot of sleep, rest and recuperation time (almost impossible with a new baby).

It's a bit of a rock and a hard place situation. However, your midwife should be able to support you and help you make the best decision.

have you seen a doctor in the 2 years since you gave birth re sex being painful/ piles/ bleeding as I think this could be an issue that will need addressing whether you are pregnant or not. I would also let your mw know too.
I would talk to them separately about your birth options and what realistically the chances of needing forceps etc again would be and then make a decision re elcs.

But do please go see your doctor, I think you have an underlying issue that has never been sorted since your last birth and you need to know the extent.

Hello
i have seen a doctor and she said it can be one of those things when it comes to the number 2s issues she has given me creams and supositries and said that i need to eat plenty of fruit to try and keep things moving regually but i also have IBS so that makes mr very irregular etc and i take tablets for that so it not somthing that is very easily controlled and iv been told by my IBS specialist that it will be worse during preganancy so its somthing i try to manage but sort of has a mind of its own.

they said the scar looks ok so did not seem particually intrested?
i thought i would discuss with my midwife next friday and see what she can suggest?

they have mentioned a anesthetic review to discuss the issue i had with the epidural?! does anyone know what this is or how it can help?!
