just got back form the m/w i'm 33+5 and am showing traces of protien and keetones in my waters - protein i'm not too worried about as I didn't do a mid flow sample it's the keetones, as I only know of these with gestational Diabeets.

had the GD bloods done - all clear and normal. m/w say's i'm not eating/drinking enough but what do u guys think/ know?? any ideas?

seeing the consultant next thurs so will do another sample and ask her to test again.

keetones is usually something to do with sugar levels . It is possible it could be GD but that they had tested too early. I only had mine done at 36wks. Although I know it is the norm around 30wks. Hope your consultant can help

ketones can be high if you havent had anything ot eat for a while, my were high once and i got a row from the mw for skipping breakfast

munz · 19/01/2006 15:27

I hope so to, I know I don't drink enough during the day, i'd had a cup of tea, a bowl of frosties and a packet of hula hoops b4 going in - exactly hwat I have every day. I'm really worried as mum had GD with me as did my aunty, so i've been asking since about 20 weeks if to be worried. mum has type 2 now (they're not sure if it's an issue she had GD or not)

thanks for ur help nemo - how r the LO's?

I quite often had these whilst pg with ds2 as i was running around after ds1 all day and found it hard to keep to regular mealtimes. keytones often appear in uring aswell if you have "sicky" pregnancies (like i did!)

misdee · 19/01/2006 15:53

try adding some carbs into your morning diet. a slice of wholemeal toast or soemthing,. ketones are produced when people are on aitkins, means your body is burning up your fat reserves, not something to be doing in pregnancy.

munz · 19/01/2006 17:37

i've read up and now feel tonnes worse! - it says about teh carbs thing - thanks misdee, so i'll have to have a smaller bowl of cereals and a slice of toast, then some fruit and def more water. DH had a moan as did mum for my eating habits - esp when DH isn't here I don't eat properly. now I feel like i'm failing my baby already cos he's not getting the right stuff

thanks for all ur help guys. thing is thou up until now i've been fine not had any problems at all, no sickness (well felt it but not actual - i've put the one occurance down to a dodgey sarnie! lol) but al in all it's be healthy.

going to be changing my eating habits this coming week to see if that has any effect for my consultant's apt next week. def more fruit/veg for me. and water.

your baby will taking all he needs from you. dont worry, its yourself you have to look after. take care and good luck for next week. try some pasta at lunch as well. small meals as well throughout the day.

munz · 19/01/2006 19:24

I was thinking of switching to pasta for lunch times, i've been being v naughty and having toast with butter and jam. DH has said once he's back i'll be tkaing proper care of myself! lol. i'm a bit more relaxed now as apparently it's a sign of dehydration. small and often would be the key for this one with lots of water. will let u know how I go next week.

thanks for your advice hon. ((hugs))

ok gals thanks for all ur imput last week.

saw my consultant this week (after a week of eating more fruit/veg better balanced lunch/dinner) not as much choccy, (apart form the last two nights had chips and pizza's) anyhow also been drinking 1L more per day and peeing about 6 times more a day! lol. anyhow i'm pleased that the ketones have now gone out of my system and all is back to normal, so for the next 4 weeks ish it will be proper meals and lots of fluids for me!

I'm just so relieved it's turned out to be nothing major.

I've had this as well Munz. You can buy testing strips to test yourself at home if you ask at a Chemist. I think they are about £5. It made me feel better that I could keep track.

Also, my consultant said to make sure that if you have an early tea (like me because I often eat with DS at about half 5) that you have a beditime snack meal. I've just upped my food intake. Any excuse to eat more!

munz · 27/01/2006 09:12

lol ponka - tbh i've just started having 500ml of water in the morning with tea about 11am, (my early morning one was making me too sleepy! lol)

I think if I had test strips i'd become obsessed! lol. back to the m/w this coming thurs so if I keep eating right/drinking more hopefully it will settle back down. - like the late snack idea! lol. as u say any excuse to eat more!

i had the same prob in the last 10 weeks of both pregnancies and was eating and drinking regularly. Had all the tests for GD and negative. I didnt put any weight on during pregnancy either despite eating well. Only explanation MW could think of was my body adapting because I am already very overweight. Anyway my lovely boys both weighed 8lb 1 oz and very healthy and i was 2 stone lighter after having them!

munz · 27/01/2006 09:23

ooh thanks for that cath - the baby's currently 'average' weight for 34+6 (I assume around 4.5-5lb) so that's a bit of a relief u didn't have a huge buba.

I started out about 1 stone over weight (well for me it was over weight but within the average BMI) and have so far put on just under 1.5 stone. so hopefully I won't put on more than the 24lb they say.
