Do I need to buy some cellular blankets? And if so, what are they for?

I already have four muslin swaddle cloths and a soft cotton blanket (which doesn't have holes). We also have two of those baby sleeping bag things. Do I need cellular blankets as well? If so, are they just for wrapping the baby up in the pram, or do they have some esoteric purpose I am missing? How many do I need, if I need them at all?

Thank you.

we used them for DD, a fitted sheet on the mattress, then flat sheet over her with a cellular blanket on top. I thought they were better for avoiding over-heating, she was a summer baby.

After I mastered swaddling (she had a strong Moro reflex and would do fantastic Tommy Cooper impressions that would startle her awake) I'd use the cellular blanket to swaddle, then tuck a sheet over her to keep her in place. The lovely M&P blankets I bought/was given were rolled up and put down the sides of her to reduce rolling and later used in prams, car-seats etc. I used the CBs right up 'til 5-6 months or so when she went into her own cot and we switched to grobags.

I'd thought a receiving blanket was the one used for bringing them home from hospital, on the list of essentials for the hospital we were told at NCT and ante-natal classes a blanket was on there.

Grin pony, possibly as demo-ed in 'call the midwife' last Sunday where Chummy wrapped the breech baby before she let it dangle - eek.

Grin at fire brigade.
My mam said a receiving blanket was just a clean blanket that a new baby was wrapped in or changed on. In the days when people didn't have much money or were able to do a lot of washing, so a brand new baby got no infection.
Think they are just ponce tastic these days though.

sheets for cots.
Hmm
seriously, ours is lined with a towel.
(and a muslin cloth on top of that for dribbles from her head)

you don't need extra stuff - use adult sized sheets folded and tucked in (or folded round several times if paranoid)
we were given loads of blankets anyway, but we use towels quite a lot (we seem to have shedloads of spare towels!!)
