i think running should be OK, but be careful not to overheat or overdo it!

swimming is the ideal pg exercise btw.

I work in london and have 2 boys at home and my husband doesnt get in til late, so i could only swim once a week at the weekend. but i will try to do this at least.

I went to a seminar at my hosp. with the physio and she said running was 'okay' up to 34 weeks as long as you don't overdo it, but she'd advise against it. She said it was better to go for a long walk than to run. Or she recommended swimming or doing pg yoga rather than running & aerobics. Apparently you're more injury prone in pg (due to relaxin making ligaments more stretchy & therefore joints are more unstable), and the extra weight puts more pressure on joints too. But I'm so impressed that you even want to run - I don't think I could go for a run if you offered me the winning Euromillions ticket

Hi, I was a regular runner before getting pregnant and wanted to keep on doing it. Lots of conflicting advice about exercise in pregnancy, especially in the first trimester. The danger is over-heating which might cause a miscarriage. Generally, if you are fit and well, and there is nothing to indicate your pregnancy is high risk, and have been running regularly prior to conception, the advice seems to be, keep going but don't push it. If you've never run before then pregnancy isn't a good time to start. For more info check out runners world
And if you are running visit the runners thread on here in the health section!

Thanks for your responses.

I was a regular 1/2 marathoner until i was preg with my first child. i had spd with both babies and 'high risk' pregnancies with both and induced early. so think i will have to leave the running until after i have no.3!

will look into preg yoga though. want to try and keep fit and keep off as much weight as poss....still havent lost alot since the last 2!!

thanks,

cx

If you do nothing else - Pelvic Floor Excercises!!!!!!! It'll be the thing you most appreciate afterwards for the long term
