Is there such thing as too much movement?

I've read about people reporting a sudden drop in baby's movements to their doctor/midwife and I'm sure I also read that peak movements in the bump are from around 24-28 weeks while the LO still has plenty of space. I'm now 34+2 and the movements seem to be getting more and more frequent and strong. To the extent that it really hurts at times, especially when I don't see it coming! My bump seems to be constantly wriggling and squirming.

Should I be worried? I keep thinking maybe it's a sign that he'll come early as it's as if he's ready to come out into the world, he feels so strong! DH is very sporty so he's just convinced he's doing circuit training in there and is glowing with pride. I meanwhile am being kicked 24/7 and struggling to breathe when he moves up high.

Anybody experienced similar and should I be concerned?

My baby is also very mobile. I found that from about 32 weeks some of the movements became painful, especially if they were lower down. It's almost as if you can feel the baby touching your cervix, iyswim. Also, you really know about it when it kicks your ribs or your hip bones! I have told the midwives the baby moves a lot and none of them have ever mentioned this being a concern. I am extremely overdue now, 41+5 and being induced tomorrow, and it is still wriggling away like a goodun. I suppose it is nice to know they are ok in there! Good luck with everything.

Thanks TheOnlyWayIsEnfield - that's reassuring, although I can't begin to imagine another potential 6 weeks of it! Have been convincing myself that he'll come on the early side rather than late side, but deep down I know this is probably just setting myself up for a long and frustrating wait!

Good luck for the induction tomorrow!

Currently 40+5 and being regularly assaulted from the inside. She managed 50+ bouts of insane wriggles/kicks/punches (strong movements) lastnight and is currently trying to break my ribs/rupture my liver. She seems to calm a bit if I'm lying on my left or bouncing on birthing ball.
BIL was like this apparently. Oh joy.
I always ask MW if this is normal....and yes. I just have a very active hooligan.
Good luck tomorrow enfield.

Thanks both of you. Dread mixed with resignation!

Yes feekerry - know exactly what you mean. I had to suppress a little yelp on the train into work this morning as I got an unexpected and very strong kick right in the middle of my bump!
