i think this is the most insulting thing that has been said to me this pregnancy. And it was from a new TA in my class. I would have thought she would be a bit nicer to me, since it was her second day in my class! I thought I did well not responding!

What's the worst thing anyway has said to you? And how id you react?

I told my SIL the other day that at 26 weeks I had only put on 3lbs and therefore must have lost a ton and she said' really I thought you were bigger this time you look a lot fatter in the face'. I ignored her!

twizzlestix · 23/01/2012 19:10

How rude! Why would that be a socially acceptable thing to say? I'd expect it from some of the kids but then I'm a teacher too and am sure they've been looking at me Hmm as I teach them about Healthy Eating with an eight week gassy tummy swelling on top of my already chunky frame :) Hopefully as your working relationship progresses, your new TA will think before making further comments!

heartmoonshadow maybe Sil is jealous? It sound pretty petty after you've clearly lost some weight! A 3lb weight gain by week 26 is Shock

morethemerrier · 23/01/2012 19:20

Them:Are you sure there's only one in there?

Me, well I ve been scanned three times so def only one.

Them: It could be hiding, your huge! (said with a very straight face) Hmm

Also, had a few comments how I don't have to worry about weight until April?!? (due april) I am not worried, and will continue to be NOT worried after April when I have my gorgeous little bundle number 4!!!

Oh and started off this pregnancy a healthy size 12, now just going into size 16!

SoozyWoozy · 23/01/2012 20:14

I've had:

Is that good news?
That's too soon.
Tell him to tie a knot in it.
What have you done that for?

And they're just the MILs responses.... Wink

I've had 'oh i wondered if that was just leftovers from your last baby', i know last baby is only 7 months and i'm 5 months pg but really, it looks like a baby bump !!

Imnotaslimjim · 23/01/2012 21:12

When I stepped out of the car carrying newborn DD, a neighbour commented "I thought you had just had a few too many BBQ's, I hadn't realised you we're pregnant!

" I wouldn't mind but my bump was massive, and my waddle from having SPD was very apparent!

beginnings · 23/01/2012 21:21

Since going back to work after Christmas, from a number of people, "Oh, you must be pleased that you finally look pregnant and not just like you're fat." Hmm

MiauMau · 24/01/2012 10:21

On the train a month ago, completely packed. A lady instead of seating down called me over, when I got to the seat, guy was already there.
Lady "Excuse me?"
Me (at 7 months pregnant):"Can I please have your seat?"
Man (seating in priority seat):"Why?"
Me (staring at my belly): "Because I'm pregnant?!?"
He did get up eventually but, was looking at me as if I had gotten pregnant on purpose just to take his seat.

buonasera · 24/01/2012 13:42

My mother keeps asking me how "fat" I am and whether I'm getting selfconscious about being so "fat".

Sod off, mum.

Enfyshedd · 24/01/2012 14:25

My mother keeps saying to anyone who will listen that she's so pleased that I haven't put on a lot of weight so far (22+2) because she was worried that I would balloon in pregnancy. I know I started at a size 16, have a sweet tooth and love my choccy & cakes, but I've never been one for constant gorging...

Hmm
orangeLFDThead · 24/01/2012 14:31

In late october:
Woman - when are you due?
Me - January.
Woman - no never, you will never make it to January or you will look like the back end of a bus

BellaLEL · 24/01/2012 14:37

Lol, we all put on a bit of weight being pregnant. I think it's just a clash of wit that makes us think that some comments are insults and not light hearted jokes.

Comments like these shouldn't get us down at all! Just think, they could be worse! Imagine Joan Rivers giving her opinion of you?! Huh! I wouldn't want to imagine!

Alligatorpie · 24/01/2012 15:26

Beginnings ; that is awful!

Sorry I am not the only one going through this, it is just astonishing how rude people can be!

MiauMau · 24/01/2012 17:04

Oh, I just remembered...
"You look like a barrel"
... and at about 5 months "Bloody hell, you're looking mummy shaped". Aaaah, the joys of working surrounded by men.

buonasera · 24/01/2012 17:09

Bella, it doesn't get me down, but my general opinion of people who comment on someone else's weight is that they're either deliberately rude or a bit thick. Pregnancy doesn't change that.

BellaLEL · 25/01/2012 11:38

buonasera...I understand and agree with what you're saying, pregnancy doesn't change the fact that some people are deliberately rude or a bit thick.

Don't get me wrong, I've had my fair share of 'fat' comments even before I fell pregnant! I just accepted that these people clearly have a serious insecurity themselves and that's unfortunately a way that they deal with it, taking the mick out of someone else's imperfections to make them feel better.

That was why I mentioned Joan Rivers, a woman who is clearly not happy with her appearance and for one reason or another gets paid loads to insult people!!! Wha?!!

I was in full flow of baby blues about 5 days after DS (10lb 4 oz) was born.

Needed some fresh air, so left DS with DH whilst I walked to the newsagent at the end of our street. I bumped into a elderly neighbour, who said "Have you not had that baby yet", I replied "Oh yes (big smiles), had him 5 days ago"....

She said....."Oh, you are still carrying a lot of extra weight" - cue hysterical crying from me...
