Box sets DVDs for maternity leave (before the baby arrives)

The only thing that is getting me through work at the moment is the thought of having (should the baby arrive at 40 weeks) time to myself before the arrival. I am only 26 weeks, so I need to concentrate!

I am praying that I go to 40 weeks, which will give me 4 weeks at home to get myself sorted, but I also plan on watching some DVDs with a constant stream of full fat hot chocolate.

I am years behind the times with TV series' and programmes, but in the past I have absolutely loved 24. Can anyone recommend DVD boxed sets in a similar vein? I have heard about The Killing, and various versions (languages?) and various series - which one of those should I be going for? All suggestions very welcome.

The killing - Danish version

Spiral - if you like the killing you'll like this. French subtitled, faster paced than the killing. Series 1 and 3 best.

Definitely Sopranos. It lasted us nearly a year as we rationed the episodes. Didn't want it to end!

Brothers and sisters is so good, wish i could watch it for the 1st time again! Also six feet under is great. Enjoy your chill out time.

The wire, there's loads of it. You need some funnys also though in case you're overdue and everything is painful.

Second what people have said about The Wire. IMO the best series to have ever been on TV. Simply brilliant.

Boardwalk Empire & Game of Thrones also worth watching.

ViolaCrayola · 23/01/2012 20:40

Mad Men! And West Wing.

holls2000 · 23/01/2012 20:59

West wing, Greys anatomy, Harry potter

sydneys fab isn't it! Yes, think it was 2010 and they're doing a series 4 soon. Series 3 was by far the best though.

swivelhips DS is desperate to see Game of Thrones but I cannot find DVD anywhere...any suggestions?

HappyAsEyeAm · 24/01/2012 10:07

Wow - so many suggestions, thanks very much. maybe I need to start my maternity leave even earlier to get through them all.

Im planning on the big bang theory for mine love that programme, not sure if baby does it always protests at the amount of laughing I do :)

The Wire - takes dedication as its quite hard to get into, but well worth it!

And my sister in law said Gavin & Stacey episodes were the perfect length for a nighttime feed.
