Any good? I don't have time for the classes but want to do the best possible 'home study'!

TIA!

yep I've got it - struggle to stay awake throughout but it seems good to me - I checked out a few others but this one was my favourite.
I got the book too

Thanks beginners - is it the four CD pack? Does she have an English or American accent (a couple of people have one with an American accent and both said it was quite annoying...I think it might be the other hypnobirthing 'method' though)

yep, I've got the four pack. Can only comment on the pg disk so far. Natal Hypnotherapy is the British version, very soothing British accent!

I've been posting about it, I've not had it long and I'm not very good at it yet, but even so my opinion is generally a positive one as I'm starting to find it relaxing even though my mind wanders. I'm also beginning to feel more positive about my next birth since reading the book and listening to the CD.

Yep used this with DS2 after attending the health professionals study day and being really inspired by it.

DS2 birth was best by far, lovely relaxed waterbirth with no intervention and best of all no feeling frightened during transition (the part of labour I tend to struggle with).

Have since also bought the birth preparation book which I would strongly recommend and am about to order the homebirth CD for arrival of DC4.

I have the four pack and really love it. I'm also trained in using hypnotherapy for pain management, including childbirth, and I have to say that it's technically good as well as being v relaxing. I like her voice a lot, English accent and very soothing.

I found somewhere where you could hear a snippet of it to see if you like it but I cant remember where. Will get back to you if I remember!

I just have the birth prep one, not the 4 pack.

She's got an English accent - I checked out quite a few others but this is the one that I preferred.

I think you can listen to samples on the link you originally posted.

Thanks all! I ordered one on Amazon that was £11.99 (rather than £40 which the others were - yet all the descriptions look the same...), so not sure what I'm going to end up with.

In any case I'm excited to get started as it sounds great. Having watched the last few OBEM (with the seemingly ubiquitous demented-screaming-in-transition scenes)I'm keen to 'get my head in the game' before labour...eek!

i am not sure it works for hypnobirthing but it puts me to sleep beautifully. i love it for that.

I can't rave about natal hynotherapy enough (UK version of Hypnobirthing). I had a lovely labour and still look back on it as a really positive experience despite a long labour and a few complications afterwards.

If you can't afford the course try and buy the book by Maggie Howell as well as the CDs (everything in it is taught on the course). I was given a complimentary one as I attended the course but the book is a really good read with some useful techniques. Some really basic things discussed (ie how as mammals we are born to give birth naturally etc) and also how medical intervention is so common practice these days.

I was in slow labour for 5 days and then hard labour for 10 hours on the 6th day but honestly, that week just flew by to me and the 'hard' labour was exhausting but felt like 3 hours not 10. I have some of the happiest memories with my DP whilst in slow labour and I put that down to being relaxed, content and confident that my body was doing what it should naturally.

With Natal Hynotherapy, they don't project that your labour will be easy or pain free, but it does give you 'extra' tools and techniques to use whilst in labour to help you relax.

The book should also be given to your DH/DP to read - my DP was amazing during labour, even the midwives commented on how helpful and useful he was and how he understood what I wanted and when.

All the best with you birth somanystripes

Thanks godisadj - pleased to hear you had such a good experience! Very inspiring! I think I may have ordered just one part of the course as it was £11.99 - guessing the £40 would have had the whole lot and the book, which sounds well worth it from yours and others comments.

No, I think the £40 one is the pregnancy relaxation CD, the birth preparation CD, the 'labour music' (the background music for the birth prep CD without the talking, I think) and a postnatal CD.

I agree that the book is great though - Effective Birth Prepartion by Maggie Howell.

I prefer the American accent on such CDs. Somehow someone in an English voice saying some of the wording sounds a bit odd. I love the way the HypnoBirthing ones say 'buy-beee'.
