I bought a mamas and papas pram which starts off flat as a pram then sits up to a buggy and my kids sat in quite happily til the age of 3. It lasted me through dd and ds and is ready for the next one which is on its way! Really worth the money.

nearlymumofone · 22/01/2012 19:52

I can highly recommend Maclaren XT. Ds is 16 months now and it's been perfect from day one, it will do him till he grows out of it.

McPhee · 22/01/2012 19:54

I'm getting the My3 from Mothercare, which goes from a pram to a forward/read facing buggy.

igggi · 22/01/2012 22:06

nearlymumofone did you use anything special in the XT from birth, or does the baby just fit ok as is? Would be very handy to have a foldable stroller from birth!

BagofHolly · 22/01/2012 22:28

Stokke Xplory. You will never ever need another pram OR highchairs! It's amazing, it's parent facing (v important!) or will face away, and it totally height adjustable. And the accessories! Swoon! Utterly lovely and not like anything else out there. Astonishing build quality too. Buy it!

DH & I bought the My3 from Mothercare for our now 2.5yo DD. She was in it flat as a pram, then parent facing & finally forward facing before I swapped to a lighter, nippier buggy (Maclaren Techno). She was in it from birth until 18-20 months though so I got lots of use from it & will do again with this next baby.

I have used the My4 and loved it. Going second hand for whatever I can flog it for as we are leaving the country and number2 is imminent so I have bought a double...
My husband said that the most important thing for him was to not have 6 prams/pushchairs, and so he took the lead and did all the research ( first thing he actually got excited about tbh!) It was great for lying flat and gazing at your sometimessleeping baby and is still really good for the pushchair mode manoeverability and popping in the car or nipping to the shops. We have taken it on the plane 6 times and it is still looking in good shape.
Hope you get what you want x

I've just purchased the Maclaren Techno XLR (in the Jan sales!)

I made the decision based largely on the positive reviews on Mumnet and an obligatory trip to Mothercare. I thought the XLR, though a little more pricey than the XT, looked a wee bit cosier. Both seem to get really good reviews though and having had a few 'practices' with it at home I'm really happy with the purchase.

Deciding factors for me were: price, easy to put up/take down and the 'will it fit in my Clio' test!

Good luck and enjoy choosing!

Bread x

I fully second the STOKKE Xplory it is the best of the best and you wont regret buying one! THere are loads of second hand ones, some just a few months old on ebay so have a good look around! If not get a BABY JOGGER CITY MINI, the one handed fold is fab, there are adaptors to use with a carseat and you will never need another pram for travelling, it is also light as a feather and is fully lie flat. I have both and cant justify selling either as they are the best!!
For a double I have the Mountain buggy duo and the BJCM double (am a childminder) both compliment eachother and I wouldnt buy anything else.
Good luck!

A lot depends on how you'll get about - if you need to use public tranport then width may be a factor, and if you live near me the buggers won't let you on a bus at all 'cept with a one-piece buggy!

RickGhastley · 24/01/2012 18:17

I've got a mclaren XLR with carrycot. It's brilliant, narrow enough to get on public transport and the carrycot is really cosy. I had a mclaren for DS1 and it lasted 4 years of heavy usage so I know it'll be reliable.

Sandra2011 · 24/01/2012 22:47

I bought a Britax B-SMART for my son more than 2 years ago.
It has been used millions of miles (almost), gone off road and it still looks like a new one.

It will be used by my next baby too.

I also had a Britax car seat which you could just click into the frame and there was no need to wake up your baby.

It is very sturdy and high quality www.britax.co.uk/pushchairs/overview-pushchairs/b-smart

But probably not for a person who wants to use public transport as it's not the lightest one out there.

AwwABaby · 25/01/2012 13:31

I think Maclaren XT also - I have bought one (not used yet) as my sis and sis in law have them, they can be used from birth upwards and are very easy to manage. I have had a play whilst holding my dog in one arm and folding the pram with the other (dog not happy) folded easily and is not too heavy. Quite expensive in shops such as Mothercare etc but I found the pram on bambino direct for under 150 quid. Good luck pram shopping :)

igggi · 25/01/2012 16:44

I just can't picture using a maclaren style buggy with a newborn, unless there's a carrycot type thing.
I do love my icandy but need something more bus friendly this time!

BagofHolly · 25/01/2012 16:48

Why would you have a newborn face away from you?

LoveInAColdClimate · 25/01/2012 16:50

We have gone for Bugaboo Chameleon but am still pregnant so cannot report properly yet. On paper it is perfect for us, as we needed something that worked for town, country and beach and don't have the space for multiple prams.

notso · 25/01/2012 16:59

I have a Bugaboo Cameleon and I love it to bits. I got it for DC3 and it is the only pram I haven't wanted to swap for an umbrella fold buggy once DC were able to sit up. I am sad to have to sell it to buy a double for the arrival of DC4.
It suits me perfectly but I walk everywhere, like DC to face me, am not fussed about two part fold, don't need to fit it in the car very often and rarely use public transport.
The right pram for you totally depends on your needs so you need to think about what you require.

LoveInAColdClimate · 25/01/2012 17:01

Yay, notso. I cannot hear enough positive things said about the Bugaboo after the angst involving in choosing it!

notcitrus · 25/01/2012 17:02

Maclaren XT here too, with a luxurious cosy. The XLR comes with a cosy but is a little wider and every inch counts on London buses!

RickGhastley · 25/01/2012 17:54

igggi and bagofholly the mclaren XLR with carrycot is parent facing, the buggy used alone is forward facing .

BagofHolly · 25/01/2012 23:32

Notso are you going to get the bugaboo donkey?

notso · 26/01/2012 11:59

I am seriously considering it BagofHolly, it ticks lots of boxes for me. My main concerns are with the size, not sure if it will fit through my hall easily or in the boots of our car, Mums car and PIL cars.

Also the price, we have a budget of about £1000 plus whatever we make from selling the cam and extras I have for it and a few other unwanted baby bits, to buy a double pram, second cot (DS2 is still in ours), second baby monitor (DS2 a different floor to DC4) and any other things we may need for DC4. So obviously the less spent on the pram the more for the other stuff.

I want to go and have a look at it in the flesh so to speak as have only read about it and had a little 'jiggle' when we saw it in John Lewis.

JUJUBUG · 26/01/2012 14:45

I DID IT!!" Bought the XT!! X

Has anyone had the maxi cosi elea? Everything about it ticked what i had in mind for a pram from birth, i didnt want a carrycot/bassinet, but wanted a pram that could be used from birth, could change to car seat, easily folded, but was rear and forward facing. I knew that i probably wanted everything in one and one thing about it was that it was 13kg, but when i tried it in shop it didnt seem really heavy.

My worry was though that it seems not long out so people havent had time to tell the truth about it, such as after a certain length of time, this breaks or that is fragile or it becomes stuck...... I liked the baby jogger but it couldnt parent face and thought then it was bit too light and buggy like to be using from birth? Am i being too fussy and going to end up with a crap pram because of it?
