How long after birth does it take for pelvic pain to go?

Just that really. I have untreated pelvic pain that makes things like getting out of bed and going up and down stairs really difficult. Will it disappear shortly aft birth or hang around for months? Or will it just pale into insignificance compared to recovery from VB, lack of sleep, excitement over baby etc?!

I don't think that there are any guarantees or promises but in my case the pelvic pain was 90% lifted by giving birth! For a few days I was a bit wobbly and ginger but definitely much much better. Started pelvic floor and some other physio exercises as soon as I got my act together, and then had only twinges until I stopped bf at 13 months.

Hth. All experiences are different but mine was v positive.

When I mentioned to dr at 6 week check, he told me it can take up to a year as your ligaments need to get back to normal slowly.. It definitely calmed down a lot although am now 13 weeks pregnant and it's back again - oh the joys!!!

i had spd in all 3 pg, with the first two, it was massively relieved by the birth and virtualy gone within a couple of weeks - def by 6 weeks. Third pg, it started much earlier and was much worse. I was on crutches for the last few weeks. Again, the birth helped a bit, but it never went away completely and now, nearly 18m later, it had gradually got much worse again and I am about to go and see a specialist and have physio to try and sort it.

Thanks for the replies, that's quite a relief. Twinges I don't mind, but at the moment it's pretty relentless and I'm not sure how I'd handle this much pain and a newborn on my own for any length of time...

I had SPD in pregnancy with DS. This tbh wasn't helped by delivery and then being sewn up in theatre afterwards with legs at a slightly un SPD favourable angle, and I was still in quite a bit of discomfort for a few weeks after birth. As he was my first, I thought it was normal, but it wasn't until after I had my second that I realised that it was possible to feel OK after birth Smile.

It felt a lot better after a few months. Did get twinges if I'd walked too much for the next few years but is definitely OK now (DS is 8)
