Does an anterior placenta make a girl more likely?

I have just found out I have an anterior placenta in my fourth pregnancy. With my 3 boys it was posterior.

I was googling anterior placentas and came across a few sites claiming that girls are more likely to have anterior placentas. They thought that this explained the old wives tales of girls being less active and girl bumps being a different shape.

What is your experience? Everyone keeps telling me egg that they thin i am having a girl this time. I actually don't care either way but wonder if they are saying it because they think that's what I want. I actually would slightly prefer a boy as it would save us a fortune!

I agree makes no sense at all. Of course placental position can't influence gender. The only way it could possibly be explained would be if for example boys implanting anteriorly were more likely to miscarry than those implanting anteriorly and vice versa.

From the above replies though it's probably nonsense!

interesting , 4 boys all with normal posterior placentas and then my 5th preg the placenta was anterior and it did worry me as i couldnt feel the baby move, i was well over 20wks before i felt the baby move, very late compared to my other pregnanceis. baby no 5 was a girl! but i dont think it has anything to do with it.

I have had one anterior and one posterior placenta, but have 2 DSs. I have never heard of this theory, and I thought I'd heard every pregnancy old wives tale going!

My anterior placenta was a girl, posterior boy.

posterior was DD who was very active and quite the acrobat (& still is), this time anterior and am expecting a boy, a lot less movement felt because of the positioning.

I'm wondering about the linea nigra thing. I had a quite pronounced line early on with DD, as did my friend with both of hers, both girls. Nothing so far with DS so am wondering if sex related.

Anterior and had a girl!

I had an anterior placenta and have a boy!

I only have one DC so don't have anything to compare it to, but I did feel movements a bit later than the books suggested I would. From then on I could feel him moving quite a lot, but it wasn't as dramatic as some people describe and I've heard this could be because the placenta "muffles" the movements.

Labour was fine though - not back-to-back, which was something I'd been worried about.
