Im not sure if this is something others have experienced but it is so painful, feels like my pelvis is beng ripped in half and its starting to effect me during the day. Finding it hard to get up off the ground now when gardening, im hoping thats pregnancy and not age.lol..x

Hi,
I know what you mean im 20 weeks nearly and have the same pain, i usually wake up early with it and struggle to get back to sleep because of the pain, a friend suggested i try ante natal yoga or pilates, so i signed up and had my 1st session yesterday, i wont lie and say its gone away completely but it does definitely do something to those muscles so last time was the 1st night ive slept through in a long time, maybe it was a fluke but i think rather than suffer with the pain anything is worth a go.

i just googled ante natal pilates in my area and found a few classes.

I will try that, thanks. Did buy a dvd but yet to try it. Starting to feel that excersise would do me good as already having trouble with my shoes, lack of flexibility ;)

Are you sleeping with a pregnancy pillow Between your legs? My hips hurt if my pelvis isn't supported properly in sleep.

Hi,
I have this too!:(sorry to hear you are suffering-i would agree with Ray- pillow between the legs is working wonders!!also i find walking the dog during the day = better hips at night! My consultant also suggested swimming or yoga- but im happy with the pillow option so far

Ask your doctor or MW to refer you to an obstetric physio. I've had two sorts of pain (acute in one hip joint, more general lower back) since about 12 weeks and found this very helpful. She assessed whether my posture and alignment were basically ok, advised on exercise, posture and tips like the pillow or folded towel between legs and under waist to take weight off hip at night. Also suggested putting an extra duvet under the bed-sheet to make the bed softer, which I think is helping.

Prenatal pilates and swimming (not breast-stroke) is definitely helping too - it all gets gradually worse if I don't exercise. Leaning forwards e.g. to do hoovering and mopping floors is terrible, so I'm not doing those.

Hi I'm 18 weeks and have been struggling with this too. Have been doing yoga for a couple of weeks now and am sleeping with pillows between the knees. Have also just ordered a memory foam mattress topper to see if that helps too.

Im 26 weeks and was getting this to badly I was waking up in the night in agony. I had acupuncture 2 weeks ago and 2 days after the pain had gone and hasn't been back since Grin it's deff worth giving it a go

As well as the pillow between the legs (and the pillow under the bump and the pillow behind the back) I have taken to sleeping with a winter-weight duvet folded in half underneath me on my side of the bed. It has provided a good cushion for my hips, which are really not liking being made to sleep on my side.

a pillow between the knees can help, but it doesnt compare to a proper pgregnancy pillow! i have the summer infant one and its the best £47 i spend during my last pregnancy (dont need it yet but it will be coming out soon) it does seem a tad expensive but the improvement in sleep and lack of pain is worth it a thousand times over www.amazon.co.uk/Summer-Infant-Ultimate-Body-Pillow/dp/B0035ER15K/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1327321601&sr=8-1 (only £35 here too!)

Youve got SPD and if you talk to your midwife they might give you a belt to wear during the day and an enormous bandage-type thing to wear at night - they sort of hold you all together.

KateWinstanleyAcupuncture · 26/01/2012 11:07

JustHayley - Really glad you found acupuncture useful and glad there are other solutions too. It's important to do all you can to be comfortable at night - no matter how weird or wonderful!

funkygardener · 02/02/2012 20:01

Thanks for the advice. I have seen a physio today and she said pretty much what you all have said. She said that as long as i keep my knees together at all times should help, easier said than done.Lets hope less pain tonight.
