Admitted 3 times in 6 weeks - non-labour grab bag?

I've been admitted to hospital 3 time in the last 6/7 weeks, and each time I have nothing with me and then have to try to think what I might need whilst panicking and send DH home for it.

So I think I need a bag that I can take with me every time I go to hospital just in case . Last admittance was Thursday for contractions at 28 weeks, so I know have fewer criteria for being admitted.

I really just need a small bag of basics but I can't think clearly at all, so I can't decide whether (given prem labour is a concern) I should be putting in maternity pads, or whether I should stick to shampoo, towel and toothbrush.

Has anyone had a similar bag?

TIA

No experience I'm afraid - maybe have two small bags, one with regular overnight type things (nightie, shower bits, tothbrush, etc) that you can grab if you need to be admitted and a second bag with labour/birth related bits that DH could get if necessary. That could maybe live in the car (if you have one) so DH wouldn't need to go home and you know that you will have everything to hand if things do happen.

Two bags is a good idea, thank you. And we do have a car, so it can just stay there. That way I can just have a really small one of essentials.

I was just about to suggest two bags:

  • Classic labour bag (loads of lists on here of suggestions)
  • 'Oh bugger, not again' bag (good book, trashy novels, phone/laptop charger, crosswords, PJS, nice toiletries, etc... basically stuff to keep you occupied - which you won't need in the labour bag!!)

I personally would view the maternity pads as an essential. Not a labour bag (although put some in there too!)

MrsPear speaks as someone who went into labour at 29 weeks

I like the idea of an "oh bugger, not again bag". Although at the moment a labour bag for me would be more in the vein of an OFRS.

Some maternity pads in the 'oh bugger' bag, and more in the labour bag in the car it is then.

MrsPear - is there anything else that would be useful/unuseful in a labour bag if DC2 does come early?

Well I've been admitted again, but this time I have my 'oh bugger' bag with me. One less thing to stress about.

Thanks again!

How stressful- this is clearly not an easy pg for you... Migraines, early contractions...

I hope they get you sorted, you have sufficient readjustment novels/ magazines and your LO stays put a good while longer.

Readjustment?! Auto correct... Trashy of course Wink

Thanks. I've got a Scandinavian thriller that i'm looking forward to. I'm going to ask dh to get me so magazines tomorrow.

On a plus side we've now sorted the meds that work on my migraines and it worked well this evening at fending one off.

Last pg was so easy...

oooh, a Girl with The Dragon Tatoo kind of thing?! Recommend if its any good! I'd imagined you'd had problems with your last pg too- must make it even harder.

I didn't think I'd breezed through my last- was sick for ages, then the usual aches/pains/heartburn/rib pain stuff but in comparison I did indeed sail through and I'm not having half of what you're suffering. I must stop feeling sorry for myself and be bloody grateful!! I'm quite similar to you- 27 weeks (with twins).

How's your DS coping with mummy in hospital?
