Pregnancy

Talk about every stage of pregnancy, from early symptoms to preparing for birth.

I'm having a bad time with restless legs/body/mind. At 16 weeks I already seem unable to be comfortable.

I've got one of these long body pillows, tried lavender pillow mist, warm drinks, shifting position numerous times. But no matter what I do I cannot get in to a position in which I don't feel like I'm squashing baby Blush I know at only 16 weeks, this really doesn't bode well for the rest of my pregnancy.

So what I am asking I suppose, is how are other coping with getting proper rest. And what are you doing to help sleep.

I remember I got restless legs more with the first. I think because I as working full time in an office sat at a desk, then used to get home and collapse on the sofa. Bar one hour if pregnancy yoga a week I wasnt exercising as preggers over winter.

With second, working half time and the not sitting down as ferrying eldest about, working to school etc as preggers in spring and summer.

I think the more walking you can safely do the less restless legs.

My pregnancy diary refers to me then reading that low sodium can cause leg cramps; hence the added help from salted crisps as I dont add salt to any food usually. Its tricky if you are on bed rest though. You need to keep flexing your ankles and stretching out your legs in and out as often as possible in the day

. Maybe then theyll rest at night!?

Let me know how you get on, and if I track down the source of my diary note Ill post it here!

Thank you! My mum said about tonic water, but I'll just heave it up Confused

I'm rather partial to marmite crisps at the moment, so maybe I'll try a bag of them before bed. It's a sacrifice, but someone's got to make one Grin

OH and just to add, I've been out for two little walks today so fingers crossed it might help as well. Last night was particularly bad.

McPhee Sad presumably no better then? I am really feeling for you, as I remember pacing my bedroom with dd1 all too well.

Which position are you favouring to sleep in at the moment? ...when you do manage to drop off that is... .

Try and keep you legs straighter if you are dropping off with them bent. Once on my side (see above) I'd slowly find I needed to stretch out my legs, hence the need for a cushion behind my back to stop any rolling. So I'd be on my side, all cushioned up, with legs one on top of the other with a pillow between them along their length, slightly forwards. (wishing I could demonstrate or draw online!)

Keep going with the crisps and walks. The effect was cumulative for me, not sure one pack with turn it round immediately?!

Good luck !

I'm tending to sleep in the recovery position, with my left leg up on my body pillow to raise my bump. I've tried sleeping with my legs straight, but they twitch even worse Confused

I'll never sleep again will I Sad
