Ouch! Poor you. Keep a close eye on baby's movement, get checked if it doesn't seem right. You should be fine.

ceebie · 20/01/2012 16:21

I got knocked over by a cow (honestly!) when I was 7 months. No movement for rest of day. Baby turned out to be fine - was probably thinking "mum seems upset... I'll stay nice and quiet for her!". If your instinct is that bump wasn't hurt, and you are feeling movement, I would view that as very positive. However, the midwives are always happy to put worried minds at rest - if you ARE worried, phone and go in to be monitored

gazzalw · 20/01/2012 16:33

DW tripped over in a dark street when equivalently pregnant with DS - she was amazed that two cars ground to a halt immediately (it was a side road so quiet) to see if she was okay (she was). She had put her hands out to break her fall so the bump didn't get the impact at all but a friend who is a midwife said she should have just got the baby checked out just to be on the safe side.....

AlpinePony · 20/01/2012 17:01

Why would you get your bump checked out if you landed on your knee? I'm confused.

bananarama05 · 20/01/2012 17:08

I fell down some (outside) stairs when pregnant with dd.

I now have a big scar on my knee and a snoring 8 month old fast asleep on my left arm, which is entirely numb but you're probably not bothered about that....

Anyhoo, I'm sure you'll be fine, if you're really worried though give your mw a quick call, I'm sure she'll be able to put your mind at rest.

MandaHugNKiss · 20/01/2012 17:09

alpinepony With any fall, there's a remote chance of placental abruption - the fact you land on your knees doesn't alter a harsh jarring of your abdomen. Chances are everything is absolutely fine, but if movements are decreased you ought to get checked asap just in case. And has already been said before many times, midwives would rather allay your fears if there's a chance something isn't right, but it's fine than you carry on regardless thinking everything will be ok... when it may not be.

IHeartIona · 20/01/2012 17:17

I fell down the stairs yesterday at 37+6, called my hospital and they advised me what to do and asked questions, I'd do the same OP if you are worried or to put your mind at rest.

Joygirl78 · 20/01/2012 17:20

I slipped in ice and landed flat and hard on my arse with DC1. Didn't really hurt myself. But a young couple had to help me up and were shocked when I said I had an eight month + bump under my heavy coat. Baby never stopped wriggling as normal so I never worried about it.

madeindevon2 · 20/01/2012 17:26

Thanks all. It all happened so fast. To answer earlier question I grazed knee but kind of rolled hence I said I "don't think" I hurt bump but can't be sure. No visible marks. Just achy on one side. But baby been wriggling around so I'm not too worried prob just achy coz end of another long working week. Thanks for all your replies x

Rolled... that's a great way to control a fall if you can manage it. I used to teach someone who had spasms how to roll when she fell over, does help a bit.

I'm always tripping on things. My boyfriend's eyes go all wide when I do. Since there's loads of ice here in Sweden we link arms so if I go down he does too.

And I'll roll on him :P

Boomerwang · 20/01/2012 18:52

Doh I'm always doing this... I'm also glad to hear things seem to be okay!

serendipity16 · 20/01/2012 21:33

I would get checked over.

As Mandahugnkiss says there is a chance of having an abruption if you have a sudden jolt like that.
I've had 2 abruptions, one concealed, no pain, no bleeding and my baby died.
The other i hemorraghed but thankfully the doctors saved my baby.
It's better to be safe than sorry, a quick check over will only take 15 mins.

madeindevon2 · 21/01/2012 07:28

Well I did call Mw at hospital in end and particularly becAuse I'm rhesus neg they asked me to go straight in.
Put me on monitor. All other usual checks. Baby fine. But was having a lot of tightenings. Not had this before. Half thinking I was going into labour! but cervix was closed and after few hour or so tightenings Stopped. Blood fine. So went home. Glad i got checked out even tho in hospital over 4 hours in the end! Hopefully next time I leave hospital will be with bundle of joy!
Glad i went. Feel reassured and they were great.

Glad everything is ok, good luck for the remainder of your pg and arrival of bump madein!

gazzalw · 22/01/2012 18:35

Yes, better to be safe than sorry.....! Best of luck with the rest of your pregnancy!

countrybump · 22/01/2012 18:41

Glad everything is OK. I fell over when 38 weeks with DD and badly sprained my ankle. I also 'rolled'! I did get checked over by my GP (my GP is lovely and came to see me and check me over, sometimes there's a real benefit to living in a little village with our own GP surgery!)

Anyway, although my ankle was very painful and took 6 months to heal fully, baby was fine. I felt reassured to be checked over though and hear a strong and regular heartbeat, even though I could still feel movements.

Take care of yourself!

DexterTheCat · 22/01/2012 19:02

I feel down my stairs when 8 months pregnant. Hurt my back but didn't touch bump so never thought to go to get checked.

Everything was fine
