Cervical stitch-anyone had more than one

I just wondered whether anyone has had more than one cervical stitch, and if so, how close together you had your babies. I had a stitch during my pregnancy with my son last year. At the time my elder son was 3.5-4 years so he was able to do lots for himself and I was able to rest a fair amount. I just wondered if I decided to have another baby, would it be madness having a stitch pregnancy with a child under two. Would welcome any advice. I have an incompetent cervix by the way.

Thanks.

Hi..im back at work now (have been off sick since last Tue)so am free to use mumsnet again..hurray!!!
To cut a long story short..i phoned midwife at hospital as i could not stand up on tue with my pains and they said go to docs and get wee tested which i did and it came back clear...i went home and got in bed with my hot water bottle but by wednesday the pains down low and all up my right side were unbearable..i then rand midwife at hospital again and she said "theres nothing we can really do for you at 20 weeks"..i was gutted..i tried to get to see my doc but she was fully booked and would only speak to me on the phone so my DH came home and took me to A and E...they were brilliant there and tested me for appendix..all my bloods and my wee again..as my babe was moving they felt happy about that and refered me to see consultant next day where i was re scanned and had my tum felt again....apparently they think its severe ligament pain....and as i sit here today all pain has gone...I cant believe how crap the midwives were and how sever the pains were and how now im back to pain free again....
anyway sorry to go on..hope your all ok and keep well..thanks for asking xxx

snips- yeah i have my 20 week scan tommorrow afternoon, and have a cervical scan on friday i think, so i will wait and ask someone for advice tommorrow, i just had another feel and there is a definate opening of around a finger in diameter, maybe its normal for it to be open slightly at the bottom as long as its not thinning.

dewberry- wow that sounds awful, trying to get to see someone but they can't do anything for you at 20 weeks! im glad you went to a&e and got checked out. glad to hear the pain has gone too.

Morning girls

Thank you so very much for all your well wishes! It really warms.

I am feeling a bit better in my self. Have been lying down as much as pos over the w/e. And DD is at nursery this morning so again have been lying down. I actually think it has made some difference and seem to be getting less of these "tightening" episodes.
DH has been fantastic! Taking DD out yesterday. Doing the cooking. Telling me to go and lie down etc. He will also be coming with me to the scan on Wed just in case I get some bad news (touch wood I won't)

Slinkstah - It is possible to feel your own cervix and it does indeed have a dip in it. Should not be too big though. Difficult to explain.
When i s your next scan?

Dewberry - so sorry to hear of your bad experience! But glad everything seems to be better now.

Hugs
Dagirl

Oops - crossed messages with you Slinkstah.
If you are concerned the ask to see someone before.
Maybe you could ask them to also do a cervical scan when you are there tomorrow?
Best wishes

slinkstah · 31/01/2006 16:40

hello eveyone Hope everyones cervixs are ok

had my 20 week scan and they looked at my cervix and said it was closed so i am relieved, i also got advice from midwife which suggested it could well be normal to have a open dip on the cervix if you'd had children before.
also very glad someone didn't have to check as am a bit messy due to progesterone pessarys
phewwwwwww!!!!!!! was panicing for a bit there- even packed a hospital bag

dangirl · 31/01/2006 17:22

so relieved for you slinkstah!

I insert my pessarie at night time when lying down/ Then it doesn't come partly out and there is no "mess"

Going for my scan tomorrow. Feeling a bit better over the last couple of days. Hopefully just being paranoid.

Dangirl

slinkstah · 31/01/2006 17:28

i use 2 pessarys a day so i am doing one before bed which causes no real mess and then one at about midday, usually i am sat on my arse until 3 so its fine but today was up and around so do you have 1 or 2 a day? and are they seeming to make the contractions any better yet? to tell you the truth mine have not made much difference although today and yesterday i had very few contractions.

good luck with your scan tommorrow, report back to us asap

well i have a proper cervical scan on friday anyway which will assess the length properly and then i am gonna request another 2 fortnightly until i am 24 weeks as that will get me past when my last baby born and so if my cervix is still in one piece after that i will celebrate

intersting that you take 2 a day. I only take the one in the evening. Will ask tomorrow. Difficult to tell if they make any difference or not - can only guess what it would have been like if not taking them.

Snips · 31/01/2006 22:36

Slinkstah-so glad your appointment went well.

slinkstah - maybe I can just ask what dosage you take of the progesterone? Mine are 400 mg.

slinkstah · 01/02/2006 10:36

hi dangirl- mine are 400mg too, looks like im on double dose than you, your dr might put you up a dose then if your still feeling contractions.
i have to say, i have just finished a whole week on them and the last 2 days there have been alot less contractions- i am not sure whether this is definatly due to the pessarys though.

dangirl · 02/02/2006 09:51

Just to let you know that scan went well yesterday Strangely enough the cervix has once again gone a bit longer. New measurement is 37 mm. She couldn't explain it as same Dr same machine etc. But it certainly made me one happy bunny

Good luck tomorrow Slinkstah!

slinkstah · 03/02/2006 12:55

Thats great news dangirl do you think it could be because you've rested more this week?
i have just had mine and all was fine and the same as it was last week so i am not going back for 3 weeks, i wiah i was being seen in a fortnight though as 22/23 weeks will be my most paranoid.

slinkstah · 24/02/2006 14:33
