How often should I feel movement?

Hello. I'm a little worried as I am 18+5 and although I have been feeling the baby move quite clearly at some point every day recently, I haven't felt anything for the past two days. On Monday I felt some strong kicks and A LOT of movement (provoking comments of 'Oohh, you're having a footballer' etc etc), but nothing since. I know some people don't feel anything until after 20 weeks, but once you can feel your baby move, how regularly should you be able to feel kicks? Confused
Thanks

Call the midwife if you're worried.. They'd rather see you for monitoring than you worry.

Sorry - can't provide answers to this...but interested in answers myself.
I was feeling intermittent pokes and prods from about week 16 but now, approaching 19w now, tend not to feel very much at all and haven't done for a few days.
Is there a reason for this?
I'm not too worried, as I was never getting to a point where I was getting regular responses or could identify a pattern, but am slightly concerned.

Have you tried all the usual things such as a sweet, ice cold drink?

I am not too sure on movements before 24 weeks. I know from then on you should have at least 10 a day, and seek advice in any change of frequency or pattern.
I would phone the midwife just to be on the safe side.

If you're worried go and get checked.

But it's normal not to feel regular movements before 28 weeks. Even if you've felt early movements. You can go days without movement before 20 weeks because the baby is small enough to hide behind your pubic bone.

But you must get checked out if you're worrying.

18 weeks is early to be feeling movements, and at that point they are really small so can get themselves into a position when you can't feel them for a while. I don't think I started feeling any 'proper' movements until about 20 weeks, and baby had some busy days followed by a lot of quiet days (sometimes not seeming to do much for a few days at a time) until around 28 weeks when the pattern got a lot more obvious and the movements are a lot stronger.

I remember going to my GP about 22 weeks when I hadn't felt movement for a few days, and she told me I was 'very lucky' to feel any movement at all at that stage. She found the heartbeat immediately and told me the baby was moving a lot while she was doing it (could hear it on the doppler), I just couldn't feel it.

Give you MW a call to set your mind at rest, but this sounds pretty normal from my experience.

I have felt movement from seventeen weeks but had not for a few days so went to hospital and they listened to heartbeat. I think if you are worried just get it checked out for reassurance sake.

my baby turned inside so it's feet were kicking my internal organs, at my 20 week scan they said I would feel much until it turned round so it could be the same, try not to worry

Thank you HotPink (and OP for asking the question!) as I was about to ask this myself - currently 21 and a bit (never sure where they count from?) and feeling movements from about 16 weeks but very sporadically - there'll be a quiet couple of days (with just the occasional swooshy feeling) then a day like today when it feels like he/she's doing star-jumps in there! 20wk scan last week showed no problems so pretty sure everything's fine but sometimes I need a bit of reassurance that this is normal :)

runlolarun10 · 19/01/2012 16:45

Thank you all for your advice and reassurance. I tried everything to wake the bump up, seemingly to no avail until I attempted to get to sleep last night... I imagine it was just as HotPink, griphook and showofhands said and the baby was in a different position where I couldn't actually feel the movements as it's still early Thanks

Sounds like everything is fine but this might help in future - I found this website helpful: countthekicks.org.

Sorry - this should be the uk site:

At 23 weeks mine stopped moving for a few days - the midwife said u should feel 12 kicks within every 24 hours, however she said until 26/27 weeks it's usual for babies movements to be really irregular. xx
