Luckily I don't drink so don't need an excuse for that

But I do play Rugby union and hockey (and as they tend to get rough and I tend to get injured) and so wont be playing anymore

I usually drink a LOT to tea and coffee (switching to decaff but when people get it for me etc - and I know people will ask given the amount I drink)

And I eat sushi every week (I meet up with a friend and we eat sushi from somewhere that only sells pure vegetable dishes or fish dishes)

I need excuses as to why I can't do things/eat certain things/drinking decaff?

So any gem of excuses?

Jan detox.

You have a bet with a member of your family that you can't drink tea, eat sushi or play sports for 2 solid months.

You've hurt your back so no sports.

ooo tough excuses to come up with...

how about allergies...to sport...and sushi...specificallyWink

i like wittsend's suggestion of a bad back for the sport excuseSmile

if you meet your friend every week, could you not tell him/her about the pregnancy and choose a different place to meet up?

What's wrong with veggie sushi? I Think even maki crab rolls are ok, I would probably stay away from sashimi, but I did eat it in the third trimester last time. I know they do in Japan! I heard all supermarket sushi ( I know, it is not the same) is ok in the UK as it has been frozen, but you might want to check on that. I would kill for some decent sashimi, but I am in Egypt and don't trust it here.

I would plead an injury for sports, not sure how rose you could get out of intense contact sports.

Tea - just like wine, accept it along with a glass of water and take small ips until it goes cold. Or tell them you are detoxing.

For switching to decaff i told people I was getting heart palpitations and not sleeping well at night and a friend recommended switching, and its worked so sticking on decaff. At the time I was stressed due to exams and ivf but it was a plausible excuse which people believed

Pre-pg migraineur. Sucks, but meant I had an excellent excuse for dodging foods/caffeine/alcohol/people when I wanted to. Spent most of neices birthday in bed at bro's gaff as I was so bloody tired (at about 6kws), but could just blame a refractory migraine. I'm sure the constant headache I have now is karmic payback, but there was no way in hell I was telling my family that day unless I HAD to as I was having early bleeding and was stressed enough as it was.
Most people dont' know enough about migraines to know what does/doesn't trigger them. However, citrus fruits and juices trigger them for me, and that's used a lot with fish...any help?
Oh, and yes, it is possible to have a pain-free migraine (though admittedly quite rare).
With a migraine diagnosis they'll often ask you to exclude foods for a while (weeks) and see if anything changes also...basically, re-introduce and if migraines get worse, that's a trigger...so you could go down that route?

But why do you need an excuse? There's nothing wrong with coffee, sushi or sport.

Oeisha · 16/01/2012 06:41

No she doesn't "need an excuse" - but guidance does say avoid contact sports and excessive caffeine consumption, and it the OP's decided on this, then we can help.
