Sorry if TMI but I've just been to the bathroom and my pants are wet. I didn't feel myself needing to go to the toilet Blush

Why would this be?? Am I destined to pee my pants now Sad

It could be wee.

It could be the very VERY common delight of an occurrence known as increased discharge in pregnancy.

It could be (although VERY unlikely and very unlucky at 15 weeks) waters...but I as I say, very unlikely.

RillaBlythe · 15/01/2012 20:53

Most likely is increased discharge. Gross but true.

Well, it might be the start of a lifelong relationship with tenalady Wink, but it is possible some waters are leaking. It's worth putting a pad on (so you can monitor how much is coming out if so), and giving your midwife a call. It's probably fine, but always worth getting it checked out Smile.

McPhee · 15/01/2012 20:53

I smelt it, it smelt like very strong urine Blush

Should I be doing anything?

Kegels.

tiredlady · 15/01/2012 20:54

A lot wet? Or just a little moist? If it's the former I would get medical advice actually. If it's the latter I probably wouldn't worry too much. Good luck.

ImpOfThePerverse · 15/01/2012 20:56

Could you have a UTI? That would make leakage (particularly strong smelling) more likely.

Probably best to give your MW a call.

McPhee · 15/01/2012 20:58

oh damn Sad

thank you

I have heard that waters have a very distinctive smell - so very different to wee so I really wouldn't think it was that.

Call your midwife for advice though - and you might want to try a few pelvic floor exercises just incase!

I have needed to use tena lady for a while now - despite always doing levels, pregnancy just does this to some of us Blush

bemybebe · 15/01/2012 21:59

Common pregnancy discharge does not smell. If it does, it can be a cause for concern due to infection.

It can be just hormonal, in which case it will go away with time. Some hormones in pregnancy are muscle and ligament relaxants (these are also responsible for heartburn in pregnancy).

You should be very careful that it is not amniotic fluid and that it is not caused by UTI (UTI are common but can be very dangerous if not treated in time).

I would go to the MW or your consultant and make them check you out to rule infections out.

McPhee · 15/01/2012 22:09

They've called me back, and senior reg doesn't seem that concerned. I've been told to monitor it and if it happens again or gets worse I'm to call back.

My mum has just said to do a wee sample first thing in the morning and take it in to our gp and ask it to be checked.

Am rather stressed tbh.

Don't be McPhee. I always get really smelly when I'm pregnant which my darling DH kindly points out to me! I think some of us just have different smells and leakages. Get it checked and then don't worry about it.

PS I have good pelvic floor so no idea why this happens, but ti does.

McPhee · 15/01/2012 22:18

I've already had two UTI's and both times it's hurt to wee, but this is just different. I think that's why I'm stressed. I have it in my head it's babys waters, which I know is silly as I have been given no evidence Sad

I'm drinking loads, so how can it be another UTI?

For me it is just wee leakage. In both pregnancies my panties smelt by the end of the day, but I did not wear liners on the advice of my consultant (liners that do not breath can facilitate infection). My dd was born preterm at 24+1 and died due to incomp cervix and subsequent gbs infection (unrelated to wee), so I am monitored extra this time round.

Do not worry, but I would go to gp just to be safe. Wee smell if it just hormonal will go away as soon as pg hormones leave the system.

bemybebe · 15/01/2012 22:41

BTW, the reason one can get UTI after UTI is because infection enters the body due to relaxed muscles in urethra (the sphincter).

McPhee · 16/01/2012 12:30

I've seen my gp today, and been prescribed cefalexin, or something like that. Another UTI

bemybebe · 16/01/2012 12:33

Oh, well done for going and sorting it. Don't despair, utis will most likely not re-occur once you give birth to your gorgeous baby, meanwhile, just watch the symptoms and act on them as appropriate.

bemybebe · 16/01/2012 12:35

BTW I was told that cranberry juice (apart from being yummy) can also limit reoccurence of utis, however, be careful once the infection is there, it will NOT clear it. Maybe worth a try for you as a prophylactic measure?

Flisspaps · 16/01/2012 13:30

I'm glad you're sorted. And whilst a UTI is unpleasant, at least it isn't your waters!

McPhee · 16/01/2012 19:53

I've never actually tried cranberry juice, but am more than willing to give it a go once I've finished this course of pills Smile

You can get cranberry capsules from a health food shop. I don't like cranberry juice...

ImpOfThePerverse · 16/01/2012 21:30

Glad you got checked out OP, sorry you have another UTI but glad it's not anything worse.

If you do get cranberry juice make sure it's the '100% pure juice', a lot of things get labelled as cranberry juice but contain none of the active ingredient (anything labelled 'juice drink' is particularly to be avoided as the sugars in these can feed the bacteria causing the infection).

McPhee · 16/01/2012 21:50

Thank you, both of you. Will the capsules have the same sort of effect as the Juice though?
