Hi - just need to have a bit of a rant i'm afraid!

I am 24 weeks pregnant with #2 and work pt for local government (2 days one week and 3 the next). The problem is that my mw can only see me on Wednesdays and Thursdays which are the 2 days that I always work every week. To be fair, i've had to have a lot of time off recently due to amnio, scans, check ups etc but i cant help it if the appt dats fall on my work days. I find it harder being pt because you feel you dont really have the right to extra time off as you're not there all the time anyway.

Anyway, had an ante natal appt booked for 8th Feb (wed) which wouldnt have been too bad as it was first thing in the morning. Now mw has called me this morning to rearrange it to the Thurs before (2nd Feb) at 10.45am. There is a big meeting the day before that i'm meant to be minuting and which needs to be done by the Fri am so its going to be another morning that i'm not at work (i live half an hour away from work).

Obviously my baby comes first and there would never be any question of work coming first but i'm beginnig to feel a bit awkard especially as i only started the job in July last year. Also, there's a lady there who is also pregnant and who works full time!!!!

Dont know really why i've posted all this - just need some reassurance that i'm not a bad person i think!!!

You are not a bad person, but actually, your mw seems a bit of a pita for doing that.

Full time pg workers are not entitled to anything more than pt pg workers so dont worry about it - she is getting paid for those extra hours she works isnt she?

You're allowed time off for ante-natal appointments. Wouldn't worry at all about it. Esp in local govt, usually far more accommodating of family issues, I would have thought.

by law you are allowed to take time off for check ups so you wont be losing any money either. i used to bring in the appointement card to prove that you were going and they will no options but to let you go

Its hard enough being the "new" girl still without trying to fit everything in (ie, learning the job, attending my appts, apologising all the time for having to attend appts when i should be at work!)

well its not your fault though isnt it?

biglips · 17/01/2006 10:48

as just remember that your health and your baby comes first than your job!

when I was preg with number 2 all my appointments seemed to be on one of the 2 days I worked and as much as I tried to reschudelu so I didsn't miss work it never worked out
opposite when I was expecitng nubmer 1 aND I made all my appts for first thing in the am before school stARTED OR after my lessons in late afternoon
enjoy the break from work and don't worry about it!

Mandymoo · 17/01/2006 10:57

Dont get me wrong - work is definitely not my main concern at all!! In fact i cannot wait to finish and am considering starting maternity leave sooner that i first thought. Just wondered if people thought i was a pita for not being able to rearrange appts!! Seemingly i'm not

I'm sure those at work with young chilren themselves don't give it a second thought whereas those without might wonder.
