Comfortable sleeping positions

I am an 'on-my-front' sleeper which is impossible at the moment. Although no big bump (not due until July) it's painful to sleep face down now. I just can't get comfortable, my arms seem to get in the way when I try to sleep on my side.

I know it's a silly niggle, but I'm really tired and need to get a good night now, while I still can!

What I meant to say was - does anyone have any suggestions?!

I tend ot sleep on my front when not pregnant too. I find I am most comfortable on my side with a normal pillow on either side of me, one under my bump and one tucked under my back slightly to stop me tipping back. If I position them quite close together I sort of lie on top of them so then the bottom arm isn't getting squashed as I am kind of raised off the mattress.

Basically you are screwed though and you will spend the entire of you pregnancy dreaming of being able to sleep comfortably. Then you will have a baby but you still won't be able to sleep on your front because you will have huge breasts that leak if you squash them and spend most of the night on your side with a baby hanging off a nipple Grin.

In pg I was a side sleeper. I had two pillows under my head, a pillow between my knees and another going from under my bump and (tmi....) then up between my rather ample boobs!

As I go bigger I then had another one behind me pushed right up to my back to support my back a bit. Amazingly there was still a few inches left for my poor, long suffering DH! It was the only way I could sleep but it did mean that rolling over was about a 20 min manoeuvre!

Indith and PAX - thank you for suggestions. Chuckling to myself at work, thinking about the long suffering sighs I already get from OH and how this is only going to get worse :)

Dh laughs at my nest. And yes PAX, rolling over is a 20 min procedure involving a lot of faffing and grunting. Essentially you need a pile of pillows by the bed to shove into places until you feel comfortable and keep adding them as you get bigger.

I am an on my front sleeper but it's too uncomfy now. I've got a dream genii pillow now and it's fab so comfy and keeps you on you side.

MiauMau · 12/01/2012 14:58

I've always been a big sleep mover, I like bouncing around and getting into all kinds of positions and although the dream genii is good, I get frustrated because, I get really stiff after a little while.
Last night, I woke up and thought "I'm not able to sleep now, and I won't be able to sleep when DS is born... I'm buggered" sigh

I've always slept on my front, am 25 weeks now and since 18-ish weeks the most comfortable position is something like this , cuddled up in my full body pillow i got from ebay for £15-ish!

McPhee · 13/01/2012 22:26

Lidl are selling full body pillows for 9.99 at the moment, and now I can't sleep without being wrapped around mine. I used to be a tummy sleeper too, but at 15 weeks I worry i'm squashing the baby now Blush. Thankfully I seem to have taken to sleeping on my left side, with my pillow between my legs and my leg kind of cocked over? Almost like the recovery position I suppose, but on my side?

NauseousKitty · 16/01/2012 12:39

Brilliant - will pop into our local Lidl on the way home tonight. Thank you all!

Hiya, I am a back-sleeper and having a miserable time trying to sleep on my side!

At the moment I am sleeping with my Dream Genii on one side and two pillows down the other side for when I change sides during the night!
