Changing tables: does a bath-top changing table exist?

We live in a small flat so don't have room (or budget in fact!) for fancy chests of drawers with changing areas on top. I've found the Mothercare bath-top bath and thought that it would be a good idea to have the bathroom as a changing area too but cannot find a bath-top changing table anywhere. Does such a thing exist? Or is this a stupid idea anyway? Thanks!

Unless you have an very high bath it won't be at a great height really. Better having just a mat on the floor.

this sort of thing?

Believe me it is way, way, way, way, easier just to have a mat and change them wherever you are, living room floor, dining table/kitchen table if it is hard to bend, you are going to be changing a zillion nappies in the early weeks and will be knackered to hell, the last thing you want is to have to go upstairs every sodding time.

Ds hard a fancy shmancy changing thing in the back bedroom I used it oooh maybe twice.

Dd when tiny mostly got changed on a towel on my knee on the settee.

Ladymuck- I do have the mat, I thought maybe a little extra height would help! From the early responses it seems not :-) Thankyou!

Happenstance - thanks, but not like this one! I meant that it wasn't a separate unit at all but just fitted over my existing "big" bath.

WTWWW- actually it was to SAVE myself going upstairs, as all living area including bathroom is downstairs and only beds are up. I thought being able to give her a good hosing down with shower head seemed like a fantastic plan..... :-O I have the mat .. sounds from your description this will be very useful just on its own! Thanks!

We created our own bath top changer and I found it really useful. We just used a duck board and added some bits at the bottom to stop it slipping forward.

I am looking for a bath top changer too. My daughter is 8 months and since we switched to cloth nappies its easier to change her in the bathroom. Personally I preferred to have all the nappies, wipes etc in one place on the change table in the bedroom when she was small. I really can't understand why anyone would want to change a poop filled nappy in their kitchen or living room (don't get me started on people who change babies in the middle of cafes...) Looks like we'll be building one from conti board then! This is the closest thing I could find www.littlebear.com.au/ I don't know if they ship all the way to the UK. I did once see a plastic one on EBay which shipped from Hong Kong when I was pregnant, and I wish I had bought it now!

Do you already have a chest of drawers? Just put a changing mat on top of an existing one if so?

bonzo77 · 31/07/2013 22:46

I have a mat on top of the chest of drawers in his bedroom upstairs, with nappies etc in the top drawer, and another stuffed down the back of the TV unit downstairs with nappies etc in a drawer in the TV unit. Has worked for 2 babies so far.

I have never bothered with changing tables/mat, ive laid them across my knee and done them where ever ive been. Its so easy and comes in handy when u r out somewhere with no changing facilities as u can crouch down against any wall and do it.
It also helps to control them once they hit the rolling stage :-)

notso · 01/08/2013 11:39

Ikea do this which seems to be a good space saving option.
I use a changing mat on a chest of drawers, I do keep the changing bag in the front room and that is where other people change nappies (DM and MIL) but I don't really like the front room smelling of poo!

CheeseFondueRocks · 01/08/2013 11:46

You get these in Germany. People use them a lot.

www.amazon.de/Geuther-4815-097-Wickelaufsatz-h%C3%B6henverstellbar/dp/B001CCVXUQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375353915&sr=8-1&keywords=wickeltisch+badewannenaufsatz

It seems a waste of money to me though because as soon as your baby starts rolling, you want them on the floor anyway. Get a changing mat, job done.

we have taken dd upstairs for almost every single change since she was born and she is now 17 months. we go up to the loo so it seems normal for her to as well. love the changing table and I can't be doing with kneeling on hard floors all the time.

in our new house we are having a changing table downstairs too in that loo.

she has never tried to roll off. although does crawl off if we are out and doing her nappy on the floor.

each to their own.
