Is this just morning sickness, or am I getting depressed?

3rd pregnancy, 10 weeks, unplanned. Horrible sickness - mostly just crippling nausea, but I just threw up in the kitchen sink as couldnt make it to bathroom on time! Blush

I am spending my days on the sofa /in bed, and my 2 preschoolers are watching hours of telly. I am doing pretty much nothing round the house. I feel exhausted, sick, emotional and depressed. I had pnd after my 2nd child, and now I'm worried - is feeling so down just a natural thing because I feel so I'll, or is it depression.

I don't know about depression but I am having my 3rd and it was planned and at 10 weeks I was just lazing about the house feeling rough, doing the bare minimum and had tv on for the boys all the time. Am almost 15 weeks now, feeling much better but still pretty tired and definitely not 100%. Perhaps speak to your midwife/gp about your concerns about depression and your general worries, but I think feeling down is pretty normal when you're feeling so rubbish. And don't feel bad about your other children watching loads of tv, it's a great resource for our times of need. Really hope you feel better soon.

Didnt want to leave you unanswered :)

I've had nasty morning sickness with a toddler (this time) and antenatal depression (last time, though possibly this time too. A little in denial atm...)

I would say that it could just be the MS making you feel bad, or it could be depression... Probably best to have a chat with your midwife or doctor. Luckily (well, as lucky as it can be!) my depression was after I was ill, so very easy to know it wasnt that.

Hope you feel better soon xx

I was the same until 14 weeks. For me I think it was depression caused by feeling ill and then the vicious circle of guilt about feeling so bad, not going out, worrying about my toddler and the unborn baby because of all the lying around.

The depression lifted when the sickness did, there's light at the end of the tunnel x

Yes cervix, I am hoping this is just a 'normal' reaction to feeling shit, not going out much, managing the kids behaviour inside all the time etc. plus wither (I'm always lower in the winter).

Thanks everyone for the reassurance. I did not mention my previous pnd at the booking in appt, she didn't really ask or give me the chance. I feel stupidly worried about mentioning it, like she'll write me off or something.

Glad you're feeling a bit reassured, but please don't worry about mentioning the pnd to your midwife, it's really common and I'm sure it won't influence her attitude towards you, it ought to go on your notes just so everyone is more aware to look for warning signs so if you do start to get it again it's picked up quickly. Hopefully you won't though. Know what you mean about the winter, it's not easy to get motivated to do stuff even without the morning sickness!
