Natural birth after ecs?

Anyone had a natural birth after ecs? Had ecs in 2009 after problems during labour. Keen to try for a natural delivery this time round, but have had conflicting advice. Anyone with actual experience that can give me some info? Thanks!

I had a VBAC second time.

I did a hyppnobirthing course and as well as helping me to feel more confident about being able to give birth it gave me so much info.

I carry Group B Strep and my waters broke at 36.2 weeks and there was no sign of labour for 3 days. They were desperate to section.

I knew as long as I took the antibiotics I did have 3 days. I asked to be induced very slightly so a sweep followed by the hormone drip did the trick and she was born 8 hours later.

The MW and doctors could not believe it and they all said in my circumstances they would have sectioned well before. A friend who is a Doctor said the same.

It's because I had alot of info and I felt confident enough to argue a bit.

I wouldn't have put up much more of a fight if there had been no progress after being induced slightly (can't be given too much hormone due to previous CS). Obvioulsy I was monitered very closley and continually and there was no sign of distress.

The main thing is the baby and you are safe and I can honestly say in hind sight - I bonded just as well with my DS after CS as I did with DD and I still struggled to BF both so all of that made no difference.

I also found both experiences had there good and bad.

Im currently PG with DC3 and don't mind either now that I've experienced both. I did get too hung up on natural birth last time.

So in short I recommend hypnobirthing for more confidence and info to try a VBAC but don't worry if it is still a CS - natural birth wasn't the tree hugging experience I thought it would be Grin.

I had four vbac follwoing an ECS. I was induced for the first 3, 4th time i managed it naturally. All very easy labours without any real problems. Longest labour was 4 hours.

Thank you both for the positive advice and information. Good to hear it's possible! I'll certainly go armed with this to my next appointment!

You might get lots of helpful advice on the VBAC group on Yahoo

I had two c-sections and then a home VBAC with my third child.

I knew if I even went to hospital I'd end up with another section, I just cannot seem to labour in a hospital environment, I slow down, get intervetions and then end up with sections.

I hired independent midwives who had lots of experience with vbac. They were totally fab and worth the money. Their 'interventions' at home involved taking my bp and/or taking my pulse every 30 mins. This is the best indication of uterine rupture. Although to be honest the 'threat' of that never really interested or held me. I had a quick (for me!) labour (10 hrs) and pushed my baby out standing up pretty much with my legs together as I had terrible SPD. They were so hands off, so quiet and just let me do what I wanted to do. No lights no questions no bothering me at all. Just there, in the background making me feel safe. they said to me to bear in mind that even in an emergency no regular maternity theatre is prep'd and ready to go 24/7. people need paging and scrubbing up etc. You can transfer in the time in takes for this, ring ahead etc. Problems are usually spotted early and then you could take your time in getting to hospital should you need it.

Am pregnant with no. 4 now and hope to vbac again at home.

Even if you are not keen to do it at home, homebirth.org has a HUGE amount of info on vbac that is worth checking out.
