I am having mine at 28 weeks. I suppose if a urine sample showed glucose they would do it sooner.

I think they can do it whenever you need it. It's not routinely offered here (though I think it varies in other areas). You only have one if your test results show higher than normal amounts of glucose.

So i cant just call my midwife and ask for the test regardless of whether i have high amounts of sugar in my urine?

I had mine at 20 weeks - I wasn't showing any glucose in my urine but because of my weight it was done as a routine test.

Do you have any particular reason for wanting one? If you've been having symptoms that you think are GD then you need to have a chat with the midwife, and she will get the test done if she thinks there's a need for it.

Hi Mandymoo.
AFAIK - in (SW) London they do the GTT as standard between 24 and 26 weeks - it isn't dependent on having higher levels of glucose in you urine.

I'm having one done at 28 weeks too, again for my weight not because I have sugar in my urine.

Unless you have sugar, are overweight or have a history of this then it wont be done automatically in most health authorities.

In Hants it's done at 28 weeks - if you're still worried (I read your other thread!) you can have a "mini" one. They send you home with the powder to make up the drink and then you fast overnight/only drink water, drink the solution exactly two hours before your appt and they take a blood sample. Doesn't really put them to any bother as you do everything except the blood bit, if it's dodgy they send you for the full one - it's definitely worth asking them for it - especially as they're the ones who started you worrying!

I'm having mine on 14th Feb when I will be about 28 weeks.

sorry meant to add - both my mum and dad have got diabetes so that's why I am having one.
