I am 6wk 2days pregnant with my second. My first is now nearly 2 but this time round I'm worried. Over the Xmas period I was lifting heavy boxes etc as I didn't know I was pregnant! I've also been lifting, chasing a 2 year old. So far I have All my usual symptoms, morning sickness etc. but I'm so worried something is going to happen!
I've booked an early scan just to make sure the baby has a Nice heartbeat and is high up in my uterus like I did last time, but I'm so worried!
I don't know if I'm worrying for nothing, I'm sure I am and I should be positive!
I need some positive words here to make me feel better

Do not worry! I did the same in two of my pregnancies (incl. a LOT of toddler lifting and carrying) throughout the whole pregnancy and also kickboxing classes (which I had never previously done) before I knew I was pregnant. Was all fine! Even with early bleeding which totally panicked me, it was still fine. hth Grin

hello arr yes well i had no idea and moved house lumping really heavy boxes and generally doing lots of digging and hard work. 18 weeks and all is well, now you know you can take extra care of yourself and stop beating yourself up, it is a viscious circle!!!

Is lifting in pregnancy supposed to be detrimental to the baby then? I thought it was just that you could damage your back lifting when pregnant. I'm 20 weeks and have been lifting throughout- today's effort was a couple of heavy tables.

I am no expert in this one, but it's my understanding that you should try and avoid lifting weights that you're not used to - so am presuming no issues with lifting toddlers.

Am 30 weeks at the mo - my 2 year old is currently obsessed with being carried EVERYWHERE (even down the stairs) and my 4-year old has her moments too...think you just need to be a bit careful but don't think it does the baby any harm (mine is at the least at the stage now where it kicks if being squashed Grin).

Good luck, congratulations and hope the scan puts your mind at rest.

had early scans with the first two (because of the bleeding) but all was fine and bleeding unrelated.
didn't have early scan with the third - waited until 12 weeks - and was also fine!

It is a worrying time tbh, and the early scans really put my mind at rest.

My sister is a personal trainer and just before she found out that she was pregnant, she was doing stupid amounts of sit ups and other kinds of scary exercises because she noticed that her tummy wasn't as flat as before. When she found out, she worried herself sick that she had damaged her baby with all that crazy exercise. She now has a 3 month old (today!!) beautiful little girl :)

Yes, but mostly in the second trimester, if you have problems with your cervix (incompetent cervix). Lifting heavy things may cause premature birth/2nd trimester miscarriage. Happened to me. If cervix is strong no lifting can affect pregnancy. Unfortunatly, untill the accident happens you can not predict it if there're any problems with your cervix - FTMs who had no previous problems are not checked routinly for IC condition
