How long can labour possibly take?

Im 39+3. I've been suffering from high blood pressure so they have set an induction date for Friday. However I was stopped labouring at 34 weeks. I was being monitored every week and on Friday they saw I was having contractions on the ctg so they offered me a sweep to try and get me moving naturally before induction on Friday. Well, midwife said I was fully effaced and 2 - 3 cms dilated. I had my show on Friday and some crazy contractions for 3hrs. Then woke up early hours Sunday more contractions. Still no baby!!!!!! this is my second but I have never gone into labour naturally. How long can this process take? x x

I've been walking and everything Im really hoping this all kicks off soon. Apparently contractions are less painful with a natural labour x

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

With DS2 I had contractions for 5 days before I began labour. I laboured for 4 hours and pushed for 2hrs.
With DS1 I was induced and after 6 hours I was only 6-7 cm. (then emcs).
Some of my friends had easier labour, just a few hours and 10-15 mins of pushing... It all depends... There's no rules!!

Good luck!

Between my friend had high blood pressure and a few weeks ago laboured for four 4hrs at full term (not induced) - no problems.

Post birth tips from mum of three

  1. take lactulose as a matter of course
  2. big fat maternity pads (they are comfy)
  3. few packs of bid asda knickers - just chuck them out
  4. pre soak pads with a few drops of tea tree oil - wonderful
  5. keep a sports water bottle next to tap, everytine you wee put a few drops of tea tree oil, fill with warm water and direct while seeing then pat dry

Excellent recovery.

With my DS, because if where I was living at the time, they like you to go in nice and early because they ship you off to another hospital a couple of hours away to deliver...

So, I woke up about 6am with mild contractions and a show, went to see the midwife at about 10, she reckoned I was very early on so she'd come out about 4 as I had an appointment then anyway, unless anything drastic happened in the meantime. She came out at 4 and took me to hospital I was having contractions about every 8 minutes, they said I was 3 cm's dilated and shipped me off to the other hospital.

When I got there I was two cm's dilated Hmm and contracting every 6 minutes or so, enough to make me stop if I was walking but not agony and I carried on doing that all that night, the next day and the next night Hmm before it got worse, they then took me to the labour ward and gave me a drip to speed it up as I was still only about 5 cm's, lol.

So all in it was about 54 hrs
