there's no definitive answer to this I'm afraid. as an example, my SIL had a cs on 17 Nov and she needed help for the next 5 weeks, but that is becasue she has 2yo twins who she couldn't lift. She was driving by about 3 weeks post op.

you won't be able to do any heavy lifting (think other DCs, heavy housework, manouevering a pram up/down steps) and you might find driving difficult for anything up to 6 weeks

fabnforty · 09/01/2012 20:00

Officially its 6 weeks I think but depends if you are a get on with it kind of gal or want to play everything by the book.Obviously you feel delicate the first few weeks but my experience was I wanted to get moving and doing asap, especially as i had other children.Just got to be sensible but you don't need to take to your bed!

I had a CS with various complications including breech and am pretty much back to normal activity levels round the house at 3 weeks afterwards Smile can pick baby up no probs, sit on floor, in fact am more flexible than I was in heavy pregnancy! No actual exercise or anything that strains stomach like hoovering, shifting furniture around or driving, but you can do everything you need to with a newborn with no problems at all within 3 weeks. In fact my DH is out drinking tonight Envy

My advice is to rest as much as possible in the first week and fortnight, even if you feel great you will get achey in your scar area if you overdo it, bending, stretching or sitting baby on scar (which is tricky to avoid!) If your DH is around, make sure he does everything around the house so you can concentrate on resting and healing, even if you feel fit as a fiddle.

Another thing which may or may not be relevant - I wanted to breastfeed but have ended up using formula as it was far too painful for the first few days in hospital and flat on my back, I couldn't hold him in a comfy position at all. It's worth practising with a doll or someone else's baby in a lying flat position in advance if you do want to breastfeed, noone told me how difficult it'd be after a cs and I thought I'd researched it well.

Congrats on your pg and hope you're feeling well Smile

I needed no help for anything just didn't hover!! I was quite fit though and managed pram up and down 10 steps after two weeks, tried it without baby in first Grin and was driving after three weeks! Everyone's different but I found it a case of mind over matter! Take the pain killers if you need them though I found I was in very little pain after a few days so didn't take them so I didn't over do it. If its first dc you shouldn't need to much more help than you would with a natural delivery. Have you tried anything to turn baby?

MuslinSuit · 09/01/2012 20:03

I'm a bit Hmm at the idea of being a 'get on with it person' - you risk splitting open your scar or prolonging your recovery if you try to do too much too soon. I felt a lot better than I expected, but there are no prizes for being a hero - let your DH do as much as possible and you will heal better and faster.

Newtothisstuff · 09/01/2012 20:05

I was really lucky with mine.. I healed really fast. Was up and about in a couple of days and right as rain in about 2 weeks.. I've for my second in May so fingers crossed its the same.. Good luck.. Just go at your own pace. You will know what feels right Smile

ScaryFairy28 · 09/01/2012 20:11

Check with your insurance company mine said to wait till I could emergency stop without worrying about my scar if I'd gone by that I'd have been driving in a week so I waited 3. Definitely don't over do it but do what you can you'll feel better for it! I had a far better recovery than some of my friends who still have complications from 'natural' deliveries 6-10 months on!

keely027 · 09/01/2012 20:36

i dont drive so dont have that issue. husband just tring to work out how much time to book off. i am doing the sitting on big ball now for 30 minutes a day. but not had any advice about any techniques. but constultant seemed pretty sure it won move :( still you never know :)

I had my section 2 weeks and 4 days ago!! I wouldaay the last 2/3 days I have felt comfortable enough to get on as normal.

Having said that u think I over done it today and my scar hurts so will slow down abit as dh goes back to work soon so making the most of it.

This was my first csection after having natural deliveries.

Chynah · 09/01/2012 21:19

2 ELCS here and driving 2 weeks after #1 and 8 days after #2 (insurance companies were astounded I even bothered to tell them I'd had CS as it's just another surgery to them and they don't put stipulations on those)

#2 DH went back to work on day 5 so just me newborn and 15 month old - was fine and could manage housework, shopping etc. Went out for a 3 mile run 5 weeks after (both times) and everything was fine :)

helsinkihelen · 09/01/2012 21:26

I was pretty much back to normal after 2 weeks.

Had the c section about 4pm. The delivery suit staff pretty much took care of all of bubbas needs that night then was up the next morning showering unassisted, transferred to the recovery ward and spent the next 2 days there and was able to completely take care of bubba from there on.

Although i took it al lot easier than i normally would, because he was our first we ended up with lkoads of visitors over the next couple of weeks so i think things got pretty much back to normal with cooking, cleaning etc.

Then i was back driving after a week and a half - i would have left it longer as i wasn't sure about car insurance but our toilet blocked up and had the post birth cannon ball no2s so i did a mercy dash to our local IKEA!!!!!

Everyone is different though, and i was uber lucky with my recovery and only had a newborn to look after.

Google turning breech babies accupuncture was effective at getting my dd moving just not turning!
